Big M 50 cent Pick 4

The Meadowlands just announced that they are reducing the base Pick 4 wager to 50 cents. On a Facebook poll, 86% said that they favored the 50 cent wager.

For sure, this will increase handle on that bet, not even a question the pools will be much higher. Good move.

Oh no, the evil 50c pick 4! I assume you think the payoffs will be smaller like the evil 10c super? Just bustin' your chops SRU.

At least they won't have to worry about carryovers and the giant pools they create.

I prefer 5 dollar minimums on everything.

LOL. I get your point, but the pools were already sufficiently large so that the pick 4 carries over what, maybe 3 times a year? And if its the early pool that carries over, they only have about 20 minutes to promote the carryover before race 7 anyway. If they think they can increase the nightly pool size even 10% with the new minimum, I think they can make up for those lost carryovers pretty quickly. And if the pool size stays flat, they will probably switch it back.

I think its worth a shot. I'm not sure it will make a big difference in the pool size, but it will save some people some trips to the IRS window.
