I saw that...why because this race is sooo bad anyone can win...even a horse with a 2 for 32 record...

Well a 2 for 45 lifetime nipped my horse at the wire.

Fortunately, she didn't meet my odds requirements so I watched for fun.

One I'll be watching today at (guess where?) Tampa.

Race 3 - 10k open claimer for 4+ females.

The Tizanillusion fits the bill as she was in a key race 3 back (2nd race back the gate malfunctioned so we throw that out) then last out (at 12.5k claiming level on junk turf at GP) flashed early speed before fading with a questionable C. Torres on the mount.

Before shipping to Florida, she was traded between the Sadler and Broberg barns a few times while running and occasionally winning among better competition. She's dropping now, moving back to the dirt, stretching back out to 6f, and getting a significant jockey upgrade (imo) with Ferrer in dirt sprints.

The good races look like ancient history with the recent running lines mired in troubled trips and poor placement by questionable trainers. Swick is no different in terms of lack of quality experience...but perhaps he stumbled upon the formula...and we should get a price.

I just dont get he odds thing....

You take lots of time to say this horse is the winner.....

But because hes not 8-1....you pass

Say you have 3 plays for today.....

You bet $20 each......now if the others dont win at high odds ...your down

$40 ...instead of being up $30 for the day...

That makes sense if you are a two or three race/day player. Suppose you are somebody who likes the action and is playing two or three tracks that day and is keeping their WIN plays to $3 or so? They may pass up the low odds and use the horse in the Double instead. For example, I will not bet a horse to win if below 7/2 for that reason.

This is also the reason you set oddslines. Suppose he felt the horse was one of 3 contenders that he liked but was not 100% confident he was gonna win (not that there is such a thing)? Should he still bet it at 7/2 if he set his line at 5/1? Maybe another one of his contenders was above his line.

Interesting observations. Readers Digest for me is I’m trying to transition between an action player (like Coach describes) to a more strategic and patient spot player (like Mike describes).

Trying being the operative word...
