SLOT MACHINES
Don't know how many of you play the slot machines--or what your impression is of them. I'm sure I won't change anyone's mind--but if you would like some tips--I actually usually win, believe it or not.
Anything you win over $1200--the casino gives you a W2G signer.
Here are some pointers on how I win:
DON'T play at Indian Casinos
Don't play any slots other than $1.00--
ALWAYS play the maximum coins (I know--they don't use actual coins anymore--but on every machine there is a button that says "Play Maximum" Makes it easy...
Do Not Ever play the penny slots.
Now...In Silver Legacy and El Dorado in Reno...they both have "High Limit" areas. They all have $1 slots up to $100 slots.
You have to have some big money--at least $1,000 in cash. If all you have is $100 or so...go play blackjack or something.
The machines in the high-Limit rooms --max coins (or tickets-nowdays) is $27.00. Not all of them, but the ones I play are
3 reels x 9 ways = $27.00.
You'll win a lot of smaller prizes ($75-$100-$150, etc) then suddenly hit one of the jackpots. These are the signers I got from my last two visits--and I can't even find another from Silver Legacy that hit for another $5,000+.
Thursday night about 2:am I quit and went up to my room--since they always payoff with $100 bills--I counted mine and had exactly 100 - hundred dollar bills...
good luck

I remember when I was young and naive and just starting out in my journey as a teenage handicapper thinking...damn...where has the track been all my life? I can turn this into my own personal ATM! (yup, they actually had ATMs at that point...I'm old, but not ancient..lol)
Little did I know I should have been playing the slot machines instead...
Congrats man...you're on an extended lucky streak...those machines are designed, by their very core, to take your money over time. Doesn't matter how much you play per spin...they're going to get your money eventually.

I have heard that you can adjust them so if you want to increase chances or more hits to attract more play - but then re-adjust to lessen number of hits
is that so ??

Sue, they can be adjusted, but they damn well better pay what hey say they will pay. In Nev the gaming board spot checks these machines regularly. It's good for the casinos for the machines to pay generously, but sooner or later they will get your money. In the old days, (80's) I have seen players have their trays full of $1 tokens and minutes later be empty. Of course the machines now are much different but the premise is he same. Get your money.

Hey Lefty, something I wanted to know. If a slot machine has a let's say 90% payback, over what period of time is that done? Do they return 90% every day, week, month, etc.

That's the thing. You never know when. When I was a shift slot boss, my boss brought in a machine that had a payoff of 10,000. He said it would be
10, 20 yrs before it would be hit. It hit the first night. You just never know.
But get this, if they say they will pay 90% on the dollar. They are advertising the fact that they will TAKE 10 cents of that dollar. Not winner.
My wife has had nights when she won a thousand or more. But weeks months of losing too.
Me, I never ouch 'em.

Makes me wonder how the gaming commission could check a machine that may not payoff for 10 years

The payoff was huge. But it wasn't rigged to not pay off. The ten yrs was my boss' opinion. The fact that he was wrong says a lot. You just can't tell when a machine will hit. Not even the bosses.
