I buy refurbed everything.

As an example, a couple of years ago got an almost $1,900 laptop refurbed for Beth for around $850. (This is commercial grade as opposed to consumer grade.)

In the current marketplace, that laptop is around $2,600 and the refurb price is $2,350 or so.

There are just no good deals in refurb laptops these days according to my supplier.

Sorry.
I missed the graphic. Don't know why it didn't show but I see it now.

I just don't have an opinion about laptops that low end.

Define slow internet, I bet mine is worse, unless you have satellite where the latency is a huge problem.

Youtube video is good.
YT TV good at low quality, 320, 240 sometimes.
Peacock and Philo totallu unwatchable.

Sometimes, speed check is <2 mbps.

Whole computer is slow, even OO and Foxit are sluggish.

Mine is cell internet and all the people on I-95 use my tower. I am in Central Virginia but my speed tests hit all over the place. I use the smart phone as a hotspot. It is odd that the hotspot will get a verified location to use Fan Duel, but the PC won't even though they are connected by WI-FI.

Evening speeds are horrible due to all the people using my tower on the highway or home. As the traffic clears and the neighbors go to bed it creeps up. The area here is pretty flat but heavily wooded, I am about 3 miles from my tower as the crow flies. Where I place the hotspot also makes a big difference. Max I ever get is a little over 8 mbps down here. If I sat on the street 100 clear yards to the tower I could get 20-25 mbps down at low usage time. The best I can ever get on video is 720p. I sure hate the ones you can't adjust that don't adapt to your speed.

Did your current computer run faster with the same OS when you first got it? If so, the slowness of your computer is likely due to progressive software cruft -- you just need to clean out the cruft (instead of buying a new computer).

The 8GB/256GB version of the Dell 5480 goes for $185 on Amazon.

Thanks for the link.
I don't have many programs installed, and I regularly clear browsing data and run Crap Cleaner.

When I first got, I moved up from XP, so it was like lightening to me!

What do you have now?

What is strange is my XP computer that has been moved to my shop never had an issue with my slow internet. The home office computer that has windows 10 is a PITA to connect to the internet. I have messed with all the settings and nothing would work trying to connect the normal way. I have to wake the thing from hibernation or reboot with the hotspot off. When fully awake or booted I turn the hotspot on. If you leave the hotspot on all the time it will not connect.

HAVING SLOW INTERNET SUCKS!!!! Everything is designed to use high speed internet these days. Running in 2022 with 1995 DSL speeds does not cut it.

  • Have you replaced the device(s) that connect you to the internet?
  • Have you tried another computer (yours or someone else's) to verify that the computer is the problem?

If your computer is running slower than it was before, and if the measures that you have taken are not restoring the computer's original speed, then you might need to reinstall Windows.

The question is: .does your current computer with your current OS run slower than it did originally?
.

I have had video problems from Day 1.
Two laptops run differently, one about 1.5 times faster.

I have Rectum as a provider, Rectum is Latin for shit. I even have loudt TV, with channels freezing momentarily, or losing sound.

This morning, I went to their website and reset my equipment. Speed went from 0.4 to 40.7 after that.

I did find a very similar laptop at Walmart for $160, so I think I will get it. That's pretty cheap. Hopefully the 8G and faster processor will gelp.

Thanks all for the help.
