Pennwood (Penn Nat'l/Parx partnership) plans to move ahead with a sports book.

Garden State Park no longer exists, though. It literally isn't there. AC Race Course, however, still is, and one wonders if this will change plans for that decrepit facility.

Well, it does in a VERY limited fashion, as the Courier-Post article suggests. On Rt. 70 there is a gatehouse that represents the last remaining artifact of Garden State Park- at least the only one of which I am aware on the site.

My guess is that 15 year language was incorporated specifically to have a facility in South Jersey. Sweeney, as you may already know, represents rich South Jersey interests that have held sway in NJ politics for years. If the provision wasn't specifically for Garden State, there are people wasting time and money on the facility there, because as the article notes they have already begun to move on it.

Thx, think you may be right. My reading of the bill was that an oval still needed to be present. The article suggests otherwise.

I have heard that Monmouth was targeting Memorial Day to take ceremonial wagers from politicians and others involved in the fray. I sent a note to Drazin this morning suggesting that taking ceremonial bets on that day to generate publicity would be in bad taste (at best) and potentially lead to negative publicity (at worst) unless the named charities are Veterans-related.
The story yesterday on nj.com had Murphy saying we need to take our time with this and do it right. Now the professional sports leagues are saying NJ wonít be able to police the betting but I guess Sweeney knows more about this then anyone as he got Murphy to agree with him on the possible date a first bet will be taken at MP. Too bad Christie isnít still in office sw betting would be up and running by now!

If its not perfect the legislature can fix it. But Monmouth deserves first shot.
get it passed, write in a sunset clause for a specific time period. and then rewrite the legislation to fix the bugs in the future. Geez I have to teach legislators how to do their job.

Here is my take on the article. Racing at MP for the past 6 years hasnt been racing as usual, small fields, one trainer with 90 horses, diminished betting due to that trainer and an overall feeling of is there light at the end of the tunnel for this diluted product. Now SW is passed, Sweeney then decides to wait for this great moment and throws water on the fire. Drazin responds by not knowing about this legislative action and then says ok I will play nice in the sand box despite the fact he built the sandbox filled it with sand and moved mountains to obtain the SCOTUS decision(with the help of $9m in legal team fees). Ex Gov Christie says if I was still Gov there would be sports wagering at MP by now. So sit back and digest everything I put on this plate and ask yourself, who still runs gambling in the state? The 3rd legislative District(and State Senate president defeating horse lover Codey) headed by Mr. Sweeney does, don't you forget that going forward as he will do everything in his power to make those at MP sweat it out while AC ramps up to take SW bets and be on par with MP every step of the way!

Delaware to open wagering at all 3 tracks next week. Football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, golf and auto racing. Collegiate and pro. No wagers on any event by a Delaware school. Will they thank New Jersey for doing the heavy lifting ?

Each casino and racetrack can have two online partners.

figure Monmouth will go with Will Hill and Betfair. (both well known with longterm profitable operations).

Great job today by Mr. Caputo in telling the professional sports leagues ď you arenít interested in protecting anybody youíre in this for the moneyĒ as the leagues tried to get NJ to institute an integrity fee. Great comment by Caputo towards the end of the meeting suggesting the leagues write a check to pay for the $9m in legal fees and 8 years of lost revenue. Now Murphy needs to sign this into law and let the wagering begin!
