Obama not attending Thatcher funeral

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2...representation

Makes you wonder whose funeral he would attend.

Lets see... Bill Ayers... Rev Wright.

Maybe it's just that the funeral conflicts with a Golf date.

I can't fault him for not going.

Personally, I don't like attending funerals either. In this instance, he really didn't know Margaret Thatcher.
Does anyone like attending funerals of people that they don't know or maybe haven't even met?

However, in view of Thatcher's previous status he might have sent someone like Biden or Kerry as representatives rather than token representatives from down the power line.

I disagree.

He's the head of state and whether he likes to attend funerals or not, knew her or not, agreed with her politics or not, he should be there as the representative of the US.

He has no idea of what is duty. In this part of his role as POTUS he makes a minimal effort. He continues to figuratively show Britian his hand and tell them to talk to it.

She is not the head of state now or anytime recently. This is what VPs are for. Did GWB go to Edward Heath's funeral in 2005?

Did GWB attend the funeral for Heath?

Since you brought it up, I'd guess no, he didn't.

This is a chance for Obama to do one better than Bush. Why not take it?

Or has he already proven to be better than every other prez except Lincoln?

Given Barry's proven track record of "indifference" to anything other than his own agenda, did anyone with a lick of common sense, have expected any other response from this pretend "puppet president"...???

Better that trash like Obama stay away from good people.
He would only taint the service.
Let those who appreciated her attend, and community organizers go play golf.

Yes, Edward Heath was clearly as transformational as Lady Thatcher. Thatcher... Heath... non-sequitur

If Obama did fire up Air Force One, scoop up the First Lady, and attend the funeral you guys would be bitching (cuz that's what you do) about the cost to the American taxpayer.

Not me.

In case you didn't read the entire thread, I want him to go. I believe it to be his duty and obligation.

I know - you started the thread because he ISN'T going.
If he DID go, someone here would start a thread about that and how it's costing us x amount of dollars.

Your own link said the funeral had an "ambiguous nature" and wasn't even a state event, yet you think it's the POTUS' duty and obligation to attend? C'mon now.

Don't care what the article stated.

I stated my position. What more do you want?
