He's the best horse I've seen going into the Derby since Smarty Jones. Anything can happen in the Derby or on the trip to the Derby, but he's clearly the best horse. Even if he gets a horrible trip, he's lengths better than any other horse I've seen in the preps. The only risk for him is if he does not like shipping or take to the CD surface. We will know that in his work on the track the week prior.

The other good horses (Samraat, Constitution, Wicked Strong, Tapiture, Hopertunity, Wildcat Red, Vicar's in Trouble) are not good enough to beat him now. The only horse (still a ton unknown) that may be able to compete is Bayern. He would have to be a freak and overcome a lot (injury, 2yo rule) to even have a chance to compete with him though.

So true.
You hit the nail on the head H4C.
They are waiting in the wings.
And the last sentence is extremely accurate.

What can I say?
Color me impressed - he just eased away from that field.

Now, what's that stat about Derby winners debuting later in the summer rather than in April?

No knocks he's the real deal. But it is hard to win that race....pace scenario and racing luck are huge in this race. If you don't have a couple alternatives, what kind of horse player are you? My knock is that he's the favorite in a bumper car race that usually runs in a ridiculous early pace. Not every year, but most years the "derby fever" carries right into the running of the race. The horses up front...are usually cooked, well done. Some really good horses gave it up last year....due to the early pace. Happens more times than not. My only knock (on this horse) was how he started yesterday. Inside post, slow start, game over May 3rd. Sure he looks good and can win but a short price in that race is a bad bet (if its your only bet)..........it is hard to win it. Bet to have the odds in your favor...this horse won't have that going for it.

See your from Tahoe so your are just a little biased wouldn't you say. This no nothing gorilla has somehow found a way to grind out a comfortable living in the sport the last 20 years, not to mention booking winning mounts for several riders in over 20 stakes.

Oh, I'm biased, alright.
You're probably right about California Chrome, too.
It's extremely difficult to win the KY Derby, and chances are that he won't.

Here's where your wrong, though.
If and when he does lose, it won't be because he's not a good horse who had his way with cream puffs out West.
As I'm sure you know, much can go wrong in the big race. That's in your favor when you forecast his defeat.

If and when he does win the KY Derby - you better eat some serious crow, mr. gorilla.

The odds are about 80% in your favor.
Rest easy.

This sport continues to humble me on a daily basis, so if he does win I surely will eat some serious crow. And I will be the first to congradulate you.
