California Chrome is an easy toss for me. Perfect trip, slow pace, slow time low beyer. Why anyone would take 2-5 on this thing? I'll go with Social Inclusion.

Ditto, why you would settle for 2-5 in a race of this magnitude is beyond me. If in the end I think CC is the best I will sit back and just enjoy. I think one thing most of us might agree on, is we wouldn't mind seeing a triple crown winner. But as for me if I think someone can beat him I will take the chance.

There is still a lot of value in playing CC on top over long shots in the tri. There is so much money in the pools that the trial will pay more than you think even if a 2/5 fav wins.

I agree you can still make money playing the tri or super with chrome on top.
Once you get past Chrome in the top spot the rest of the field seems pretty evenly matched, so it's hard to throw anyone out of the superfecta if your looking for horses to play under chrome . The exception is Ring Weekend. I don't think this horse has any chance to show up on the super. Ring Weekend was a one hit wonder in the Tamps Derby and that was it. Every other race of his does not even come close to what he needs to win the Preakness. And he only ran good in the Tampa Derby because he got a easy early lead and walked the dog around the track. There is zero chance of that happening in the Preakness and even with his one good race in tampa with the ideal trip he had his speed figure earned was horrible. I'll pass on Ring Weekend ...

What he said!
Now that being said, I will use CC in a Tri set. Meaning I will key him in each position of the tri with longshots around him.
CC / 1,2,3 / 1,2,3,4,5
1,2,3/ CC / 1,2,3,4,5
1,2,3 / 1,2,3,4,5 / CC
$36 base bet! Even with CC winning it should pay more than 36 if the other two are longer shots. If CC falls out of the win you are looking at a great payday. Looks like a good value bet to me.

What's the appeal of Kid Cruz? I mean, past race fractions and winning times are pretty dismal.

true but he is a closer and he has been winning these races with a slow pace which you would consider would hurt a closer

He is the ONLY closer in a race full of nothing else but front runners and pace pressers. There are no middle-pack runners in this field.

Gotcha. I just wonder if he'll be close enough to the lead, when the time comes.

Kid Cruz closed into very slow fractions which is more impressive than closing into fast fractions and explains why he is speed figures were not all that great.
Kid Cruz also won those races handily without really having to be asked. Go watch the replays of his last two wins. It may change your opinion ...
I'll be using him all over the place underneath Chrome.
