First time Keeneland sales...

Were off to the Keeneland sales, selling our first yearlings ever. Hip # 473 is a Scat Daddy filly out of an unraced Street Cry mare. Hasn't had many second lookers, so not sure if there is much interest in her. # 512 is by Curlin out of unraced Bernardini mare who has is very strong in the second and third dam. Nice looking colt who has had a few lookers and been scoped a few times so were optimistic. Lets see what happens.....

Good luck today. Hope all goes well!!

I have never made it to the sales but really want to go. Just being around all that action would be an experience. I may try to get up there Sunday but not looking good right now....

Extremely happy and with our sales today. The Scat Daddy filly brought just a tad more than our reserve (75k). The Curlin caught us by surprise a bit. Had a 225k reserve on him. We bought the mare for 60k two years ago at the nov sale. We were lucky enough to breed to Curlin for 30k before he took off the last two years. So huge profit with him. We have one more to sell in book 4 hip # 2813. A Bodiemiester colt who is a late May foal, a bit on the small side, but very well balanced and racy looking. Great job by VanMeeter/Gentry Sales team....

Hang in there guys, most of these horses can be had for a small fraction of the cost in a few years!

Until they come out with crooked legs and then you wind up selling them to some vanity stable for a big loss.

Cool First time Keenelan dale

I wouldn't be so quick to doubt the buyer's purchase price
and/ or the fact this horse doesn't warrant the price, based upon the
connection to the consignor.

"Out", is this Tom Van Meter and/or another of this family who
consigned hip 512?

If so, as an FYI, Tom Van Meter was a the major link to
Zayat in the purchase of American Pharaoah and several other
major stakes winners for Mr. Z.

Yes, this is the Tom Van Meeter that foaled out American Pharaoah and weaned him at his Lexington farm. There was no purchase of AP for the Z team, as he was a homebred. This colt was appraised by the Keeneland rep at 200k and had a reserve for 225k. We were extremely happy that he reached and went well above his reserve. From what i've heard, he is bound for Japan. Our Scat Daddy filly is heading to California with Tommy Town Stables. Our Bodiemiester leaving for Keeneland tomorrow and selling Wednesday. Depending on how much interest he gets from buyers, we will then decide on a reserve for him.
