Gas prices here, at Walmart/Murphy's, fairly quickly declined from $1.92 on the 31st, to $1.86 yesterday. Hasn't started leveling off yet, but if it doesn't soon, Texas at least, will be looking at a lot of out of work people, meaning more people on unemployment, less money in the economy, and more tax expenditures, meaning that the state will have to find some way of increasing taxes, further damaging the economy. It appears that the overall economy could start free-falling quickly. Can't win for losing, it seems.

It's a little early to go that far, isn't it? Texas has a 10 billion rainy day fund.
As long as the economy adjust......slowly.....I think it can be managed. Short term it's bad for Texas. Long term it's good for consumers

Yeah, we've had that rainy day fund for a very long time, and yet, our esteemed governor, or whoever makes those decisions in Austin, refuses to use it for what it is there for. Regardless, even if he uses it this time, it won't help the people that really need it, you can take that to the bank (or not - LOL).

Throughout December, I guess, I accumulated enough "points" at Kroger to get a 60 cent/gal discount, so last week's fill-up of 12+ gallons came in at under $20. That was pretty sweet. It's taken over $50 sometimes to fill it up with the middle grade of octane.
The price of regular gas around here is floating around the $1.90's these days.

1.79 still...........I think we have bottomed out

I agree, I think it will continue to drop until most of the "fracking" companies have shut down. Some may merge, but some won't, and they will be the ones that go bust first. OPEC, and others, see us as a serious oil producing competitor now, not as just a big oil import customer. They don't want their "golden goose" to go away.

Just got back from a holiday road trip (Aledo, TX to San Diego, CA and back).
Approx. 3000 miles---spent $ 204 on gas.
Lowest price that I saw in each state:
Texas $1.69 Thurber, TX
New Mexico $1.84 Deming, NM
Arizona $1.89 Yuma, AZ
California $2.54 San Diego, CA (I heard on the news while in California that there are some new state gasoline taxes going into effect this year that will raise the price of gas from .60 to $1.00 by years end.)

there was a 1.49 out there in Oklahoma last week, gas should still go lower through february and march and head up when grilling and driving season get here, probably about 20% off the bottom where ever that is. right now there is still a bunch of pressure for lower prices.
