Thanks Ray. I've already bet your top picks to win in races 1,2,3,4,6 as recommended by your "true" win bet indicator. Later today I'll re-read all the archived posts regarding your method to get fully up to speed with your rare and highly valuable creation.

Kudos!

Ray, I have a question if you don't mind.

If you were starting over without any coding skills and were choosing how to go about creating your own harness handicapping software, would you:

1. Learn VBA in order to create Excel spreadsheet handicapping software

2. Learn Python in spite of the increased difficulty in order to create stand-alone handicapping software

My reason for asking is that I've developed my own objective harness handicapping method which has been doing extremely well in paper testing so far. By the way, my subjective handicapping method only breaks even.

I might just consider tweaking your impact factors to my liking and then test, test, test but my main factor is not one of your impact factors. But of course, I'm still very happy to have your handicapping software, especially since harness racing has so few handicapping software options.

Since I'm the type of person that loves analysis, loves working at my desk all day and prefers objectivity to subjectivity, I think I'd always feel unfulfilled if I don't learn how to make my own handicapping software.

I'm fully aware that the biggest mistake any gambler can make is to draw definite conclusions from small data samples. So naturally I'm aware that as I continue to test my objective handicapping method, my main factor may prove to be an overlapping illusionary factor which would explain why it's not part of your factor set. But naturally I must discover the truth of the matter.

I'm starting to think perhaps my last post came across as ego driven or offensive in some manner. I apologize if this is the case.

It seems like communication in print is often misunderstood. Without voice tone and/or actually knowing the person well it seems misunderstandings can too easily happen. I'm sorry if I came across the wrong way.

Your last post is fine, no problem.

Without any coding skills I would go the easier route and learn VBA. Stand alone projects are possible with VB Studio, but when used inside Excel, you can take advantage of libraries of pre coded application functions. Python may be the future but best to start with VBA.

As for the question on your main factor I'm guessing it's a factor that is not easily quantifiable. Such as "2nd start after a claim or extended layoff". Those types are important factors but hard to code. I usually use the spreadsheets picks as a starting point for old fashion pen and paper 'capping to check for any ridiculous picks or to see why the sheet 'likes' a horse that doesn't figure at first sight.

Good Luck with your projects and feel free to ask questions here.

BTW
There's plenty of Excel VBA help for TB racing at PaceAdvantage. Quick search "Excel help" will give you tons to read.
