Leparoux struggling in NY
After 40-something rides, he's hitting at 9%.
Tomorrow's big stakes day at Belmont has him with only one live mount in the bigger races (Hierro in the Woody Stephens).
Throw in the fact that he is off Union Rags for Atigun in the Belmont.
Things aren't starting too well in NY for the talented rider, who has been very successful at other circuits for some time now.
Just a short term glitch, or is there more to it?

I don't think he fits Big Sandy.
Turf maybe, but not the main track.
Maybe he is lacking energy without his 32 ouncers.

Still too small a sample size. Also very competitive riding community so not everyone can be a 20 percenter.

He probable needs time to adapt. BEL is an unusual track imo. One of the few 'galloping' tracks on the dirt.

He usually rides at Churchill so trainers at Belmont already have other go-to jockeys so the quality of his mounts drop.

He's doing OK.
Doesn't get the best horses
Usually doesn't get fringe contenders with tactical speed either because of his reputation.

I've seen a change in him since they replaced him on Union Rags. It had to hurt, but it needed to be done.

I can't stand the guy, but you are correct. WTF was Desormeaux doing?
Leparoux put the best horse on the lead.

Leparoux has learned that it's a big jump from Churchill (where Corey Lanerie is currently riding 26% winners, which is downright scary) to NY. He has a terrible habit of riding every single horse the same way, which just doesn't work.
