Rumors Around Saratoga

Saratoga harness, which owns 30% of ellis park, is buying out the remainder to gain 100% of the operation. it is also heard the new ownership will install and operate a half mile harness track inside the existing track.

years ago, riverside downs ran a decent harness meet in that area

Wow, that's interesting but I wonder if they'll be able to get enough horses. Almost every horse in the country is stabled in the Northeast or Ohio/Indiana.

The north side of the Ellis main track is less than 100 yards from Indiana

I hope this is true.

Not so much because I am a harness fan. Never been to or bet a harness race.

It's just wonderful when there is any good news about new racing venues. Almost all news seems to be a step backwards these days.

I don’t see Saratoga Harness opening up a new harness oval there for two reasons:

1) They are primarily a casino company now. Heck they even renamed their own track Saratoga Casino Hotel, taking racing out of the equasion altogether. They do perform local marketing for their races though, but harness racing is almost a dead game.

2) Its a long-term wager for them that casinos will arrive in Kentucky.

That’s my two lousy cents though, but indeed it is good news when companies invest in racing.
