No on the scene TV crews, no satellite coverage, no social media - just the horrible, unimaginable news and then days, weeks of waiting for news on loved ones.
Our parents and grandparents endured the worst of times. But they did not stay down for long. They answered the call and we must never forget what they did.
Remember them today.
