That too, noticed that also. In a long grass race with a horse ending up going wire to wire would be nice to know what fractions he was running as he did it.

Didn't all of this trouble begin the minute they made the decision to install a synthetic surface at Belmont ?
Hmmm...

Anyone that considers this a “fiasco” must lead an incredibly charmed life. Get some perspective. This was in no way a “NYRA” decision and thinking it was is willful ignorance.

The definition of fiasco suggests you are correct regarding your statement. I agree that this is not a fiasco. That was an excellent point. Thank you.

The recurring theme is that there's a lack of transparency in the stewards' decisions and the track issues. If management was more forthcoming, people wouldn't be so suspicious or disappointed or felt cheated. An example would be that whenever there's an objection, the ruling and explanation of the reasons should be attached to the race result. If there's a board malfunction, it should be explained in a timely manner. If there's a confusing photo finish, track management should explain in a timely manner, why their decision came down the way it did. If a race is taken off a surface there should be no wondering why that decision was made and it should be made public almost immediately. Transparency makes what might be considered fiasco to slight bothersome issue.

Well said! All of these things add up and paints the whole operation to be less than professional.

And to add to your list, a horse was briefly listed as scratched this morning, it was corrected but horse had to run for purse money only. This is the 2nd time this has happened recently that I recall. They need to be better than making mistakes like this. At least it didn't impact the owners like the two times lasix wasn't administered to a large portion of field and those horses had to scratch costing the owners money. Whether listing a horse as scratched briefly hours before a race and having them run for purse money only is debatable.

What does management have to do with the Stewards? Maybe if people would stop making this obvious error, they would start to understand things better.

Was it the stewards who erroneously reported the scratch?

Is there a process by which NYRA can actively lobby to replace one or more non NYRA appointed stewards if they think frequent bad decisions are damaging the reputation of their product?

I assume they have control over their own appointed steward. Is that correct?

Just to be clear, I haven’t been particularly critical of stewards decisions in NY even though I understand why so many other people have been. IMO they are more consistent in the way I prefer than they are being given credit for, but some people don’t like what they are being consistent about. There are going to be inevitable disagreements in any subjective endeavor. These stewards decisions are a lot like boxing decisions. Maybe just better communication of what the rules are would help.

Sharp post

Embrace solutions, not excuses.

Maybe they could assign the state steward a parking space....in Yonkers.

what was that about NYRA having leading racing?

running formerly important stakes races in the hard rain and slop at the soon to be defunct Big A is somehow oddly fitting for NYRA

Keeneland is much more interesting today, as is Gulfstream's mandatory P6 today, let alone Woodbine and the Keeneland-SA P6 - did NYRA have no plans for a day which historically was a big day (Champagne, Turf Classic, etc.)?

no the rain isn't NYRA's fault but the idea that NY racing is supreme is now mere hubris at best

What the f*ck is your problem, Sheff? Seriously, your steeplechase nag has no future without NYRA yet you continually bite the hand that feeds your investment. Bet elsewhere - watch the randomness at Keeneland.
