We were on vacation at this time. In a 1962 Buick station wagon, driving into Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. The person telling us where to park informed us.

We were camping along the Hyner Creek in Northern PA, and heard it come over the transistor radio. That's all they played the remainder of our stay.

16 years old visiting my dad and helping him paint a friend's winter house in Desert Hot Springs Ca in exchange for rent. Was working outside all day and did not find out till turning on the TV that night to watch Johnny Carson. 1977 seems like another world the way things are today. Johnny ripped on Democrats and Republicans equally, they did not give political speeches at entertainment award shows, most TV news, newspapers and magazine were sources of information, reporting facts without political bias.

We were riding home from Winn-Dixie Grocery Store when it broke. People were pulled over on the roads...many were crying. I was nine years old. It seemed surreal.

My mom was a big time Elvis fan, I liked him also. I think she had every single record he put out, including all the 33's and 45's.

Yes, like Kennedy, Buddy Holly (if you are old enough) and 9/11. I was driving down PCH to spend two weeks at Del Mar.

Drug overdose: many famous singers have suffered the same fate: Joplin, Doors lead singer, Hendrix, Gram Parsons (the Byrds), Sid viscous, etc.

The list is long; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._drug_overdose

must be something about the stresses and overindulgences of that lofty position that eventually gets to people

Stresses? Definitely had to be a rough life being Elvis. I am sure he got sick and tired of being handsome, filthy rich, world famous, and having beautiful women throw themselves at him. What is killing those people is their lifestyle which usually includes drug and or alcohol abuse, it comes with the territory.

John Lennon dodged a few bullets……it’s detailed in some books but very lightly covered because the writers didn’t “tell all” back then.

When Yoko moved a bed into the recording studio you think it was for afternoon naps?
