O Besos

What do people like so much about this horse? Sure, his final move in the LA Derby suggests he is a more talented closer than say, Hidden Stash. And his speed figures (figures used in Brisnet PPs) are steadily climbing. But 20-1 morning line? ... while Ark. Derby winner Super Stock is 30-1? Am I missing something?

I would be careful about using figures from that race. I don't think O Besos and Charlie are as good as the figs say. Maybe because it was 1-3/16 miles.

Kind of a wise guy horse. I initially was high on him potentially hitting bottom of deeper gimmicks but the more I looked at the Louisiana Derby the more I thought some of the figures there are inflated. Beyer gave Hot Rod a 99 versus a 94 for Known Agenda in Florida. Equibase was 99 and 112 respectively. TG and Brisnet reflect same flip. The breeding and J/T combo don't thrill me either. I just can't see this guy outrunning an Essential Quality, Hidden Agenda, or Highly Motivated type in the stretch.

Maybe I throw him on bottom of tri ticket if I have a hot hand on the undercard, otherwise taking a pass.

In the Sea Hero derby (1993) there were several horses coming out of the Ark Derby with big figures. From a class viewpoint they were not that good. They all tanked and I remember Andy Beyer commenting on it. I remember because Sea Hero was one one of my rare derby winners.

I think he’s a logical key for second for 2nD and third. If I do
Key him I’ll have to bet him to win as well by default. But Hes not good enough to win without the right pace

this made me laugh; my winners have been few and far between as well. But I'm sure I got the winner this time

O Besos made a nice run up the rail during the race's last furlong. For a moment, I thought he was going to pull a Mine That Bird.
Came in fifth and beat quite a few more lower odds. I liked his post position, I liked his odds, and I liked his late kick.
