self defense / murder ?

An interesting case involving trespass, theft, threatening and shooting.

Maybe the response was a little over-the-top.

However, if the perpetrator had been in her home, brandishing a weapon, it would likely have been the same charge.

Banging on the front door with a wheelbarrow... do that here and it's justifiable. Harm was meant, you don't know if someone that stupid or crazy is armed

Conijn's husband told officers that Cohee and the other man started beating on his front door with a wheelbarrow, at which point Conijn exited their home and fired a gun towards the parked vehicle.
If a trespasser is trying to break down someone's front door with a wheelbarrow, it seems that protecting yourself using a gun is appropriate.

Conijn's husband was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital for treatment for a facial injury and was reportedly later arrested on assault charges.
This part doesn't make any sense. The husband is injured by the trespasser and taken to the hospital, but is charged with assault.

This one's a little questionable. She was probably a little bit too late after the robbery to make it self defense unless he was pointing a gun at her as she was driving towards him. But maybe he was pointing a gun at her because she was driving 60 mph towards him?

So, in one case, two criminals pull into a driveway, with the intent to vandalize and steal property. When the criminals are confronted, they assault and try to enter the residence of their intended victims. And one of the criminals get shot.

In the other case.a armed man robs a woman. And then is killed by his victim.

And they both happen in a state that has defunded their police.....

If the wife and I are safe the task of responding to my call is to the police. Just because I can has no place in my heart. I have no problem calling the police.

And both victims are charged with murder, go figure.

The first one is in Skagit County, about 60 miles north of Seattle. Washington state has not defunded police, just the crazies in Seattle. The county is close to 50/50 and I will be surprised if convicted of manslaughter, unless pleas down. I guess it depends on the evidence and the case. Even though governor Inslee has shut down many businesses types, quite a few have remained open without hassle.

That's a horrible clickbait headline. It seems like the cause of shooting involves beating down on the door (and by consequence threatening the people in the house). Potential theft of the sign or letting the air out of tires are different sort of crimes/offenses. But when confronted, the persons trespassing chose to fight. The news headline is very misleading imo, that's all.
