Citizen Matzo Runs in Belmont on Friday

Hello ...

You may remember that I am the owner of Miss Matzoball, a wonderful NY Filly that won a stakes race and had a fun career for MASIE Stable. She is now on a farm in Louisiana for a career as a mare.

Her 1/2 sister, Citizen Matzo is a 3 year old filly that won her first race ever in Tampa a few weeks ago.

And, she is entered at Belmont on Friday in the 6th race.

While she was great on the dirt, the only race that was right for her in NY was a dirt race - and her sisters clearly loved grass.

So, this powerful and very calm filly will be racing. She is now in Saratoga Springs and we are looking forward to her racing season in both NYC and then in Toga.

Onward..

Well, the handicappers do seem to like Citizen Matzo - even with her switch to the turf -- given her sibling Miss Matzoball and dam who was a sister to turf sprinter Madame Giry.

It is intriguing as an owner to usually want to have a DIRT horse - as there are so many more options - but we will see how her hoofs and the turf work out.

At this time of the year, we are timing her races to focus on being in good cycle for the Saratoga season. Ideal to run once or twice in Saratoga.

Really surprised to win in Tampa - and wish we could have had the larger NY purses - but the joy of seeing her push to the front was really exciting. Confession - we didn't fly to Florida - as we thought it would be more of a getting started experience for her.

But, I will be at Belmont on Friday - rooting her on.

Elliott

Here is the DRF Pick Handicap for Race 6 in Belmont on Friday

DRF Analysis by Mike Beer

RACE 6 -

CITIZEN MATZO won first time out on dirt at Tampa, but she looked good in that race while tracking a heavily-bet first-time starter to the stretch and then closing her down under strong handling; bred to handle the surface switch half to the stakes-winning turf sprinter Miss Matzoball, who also raced for this trainer, out of a dam who is a sister to the excellent turf sprinter Madame Giry.

How's she looking after the late scratch yesterday? Hoping she didn't strain anything, looked like it took a fair amount of force from the assistant starter to keep her from running off after breaking the gate open, guessing that's why the scratch?

I really like this horse but I can't say why without telling a long, superstitious story that wouldn't make sense to anyone else.

GL to you and to her. Hope she didn't get banged up?
