NCAAF playoff picture
.
the playoff picture is more complicated now since Alabama beat Georgia
Alabama, Georgia, and Texas have one loss
Michigan, Washington and Florida State are undefeated
there is some speculation that Florida State could be left out even though they are undefeated
who will get picked will be announced today at noon
will feel very rough for the 2 who don't get picked
If Florida State is left out it will be the first time ever that an undefeated Power Five Champion has been passed over

And if Alabama is left outside it will be the first for a total SEC snub. That's hard to imagine.

is it fair for Alabama to be picked over Georgia because they beat them by 3 points at home
the rule of thumb I believe is the home team is considered to have a 3 point advantage all other things being equal
I took a look at the total scores for the entire season and it looks like Georgia crushed its opponents more than Bama did
Alabama beat Arkansas by just 3 - and beat Auburn by just 3 - neither of those teams are ranked in the top 25
I think Bama will be picked over Georgia but I don't think it's necessarily fair or right

The media guys are saying that the criteria are biased toward most wins against rated teams plus conference championship winner. Right now they have 4 teams with a conference championship and 3 wins against rated teams.

To me this is a no brainer:
Michigan - Washington - Florida St. - Texas
Yeah, Bama beat Georgia, but Texas beat the team that beat Georgia.
You can't penalize the Seminoles because their starting QB got hurt.
Suppose Penix tears his ACL in practice next week...is Washington out?
Sadly, there seems to be no way in hell they're going to leave the SEC out of the playoffs, but that's what should happen.

The SEC has been incredibly dominant in the playoff era of college football dating back to the BCS years.
Leaving them out seems absolutely crazy, but I think that is what we will get.
Georgia and Bama may be the best 2 teams in the country sitting on the outside.

Wow.
They left out an undefeated P5 Champ with a name like Florida State.

They were 13-0 and just won a conference championship starting a third string freshman QB. They should have got the #2 QB back before any play off game. I think Texas got picked just because they were Texas, doesn't seem right. That FSU defense is top notch.

Kangaroo Committee
Dropped the Seminoles out of the top 4 because their starting QB got hurt, but kept them ranked ahead of Georgia ?
So they're saying that Florida St isn't good enough for the top four but they're still better than Georgia
Okay

the ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips is hopping mad about FSU not getting in
he said:
"Their exclusion calls into question the selection process and whether the Committee's own guidelines were followed.
Florida State deserved better.
College football deserved better."

Beating Georgia in a bowl game.

If it's a given that the SEC and B1G will not be excluded due to strength of schedules, the real assessment is how did Washington get in over FSU? It isn't like the PAC 10 is more powerful than the ACC.

Wasn't the idea behind the playoff system to let the best team earn a National Championship on the field?
As opposed to letting a committee decide?
Every year is different. Most years a four team playoff seems to work.
But every year is different, and this year calls for an eight team playoff:
13-0 Michigan
13-0 Washington
13-0 Florida State
12-1 Georgia
12-1 Texas
12-1 Alabama
11-1 Ohio State
11-2 Oregon
Imo, change the rules.
Give the Committee some latitude.
Allow them to expand the number of playoff teams to eight in a year like this one. When limiting the playoff to four teams means denying undefeated and/or one loss teams the chance to play for a National Championship.

ABSOLUTELY!!!
Since when does the name of a conference take precedence over the accomplishments of a team?
They're saying but Alabama is much improved. But guess what so is Texas! In a game I'd take Texas over either Alabama or Georgia. If Florida State doesn't get in the delegates should have their heads examined.
I would have love to have seen Washington vs Michigan and Florida State vs Texas.

The playoff is changing to 12 teams next year. It will be the 13th and 14th teams with 3 losses that will be complaining. I think the sweet spot is 8 teams.
