I see you only read the US news sources.

1. Putin is a really bad guy.

2. The US is responsible for all the death and destruction in Ukraine so far.

3. Ukrainian deaths and casualties are way higher than US reports suggest (coming from independent sources) and way higher than Russian deaths and casualties.

4. Russia controls most of the more strategic eastern parts of Ukraine where they speak Russian, want to be aligned with Russia to begin with, and are more critical for his defense.

5. All the destruction has occurred in Ukraine. So even if he eventually withdraws it will be 10-15 years before Ukraine can even begin to think about NATO troops and missiles. That's how long it will take to rebuild the basic infrastructure. And of course US taxpayers will pay to rebuild what the US government caused to be destroyed. Great deal if you are a war monger.

6. Putin's struggles in Ukraine prove that all the US rhetoric is nonsense. He's not a threat to the west or US unless you push him to the point he lobs nukes.

All easily avoidable.

I do not know what effect drones strike Crimea oil depot yesterday will have in Putin's thinking but I think there will be a response from them. I question when will he just unload and go nuts, leaving that interpretation for others here but it seems things are inching in to very bad moves.

I read something last night that I hadn't even considered.

The author claimed that Russia could totally level Ukraine any time it wants, but it has been moving slowly because there are a lot of Russian sympathizers and separatists in Ukraine. In fact, one of the factors that contributed to the war was the Ukrainian Nazis were warring with and killing Russian speaking and Russia friendly Ukrainians, especially in the east. So Putin is trying to make sure he doesn't kill too many Russian sympathizers that want to be independent and aligned with Russia while he's trying to take territory.

Sounds like an interesting theory.

Of course, that means we are the same side as the Ukrainian Nazis that are part of Zelensky's military. They don't even seem to shy about the fact that a subset of the Ukrainian military is Nazi. There are pictures of them posing with clear cut Nazi symbolism.

This is one of those cases where both side are terrible and you are trying to figure out who is the last bad.
