If you like the 9 to run in the money why bet him to win when you are back wheeling him why not bet to place.

$1 tri 5-9-4 pays $149.24
This bet qualified by a whisker as my key horse, Fauci, almost slipped below my minimum odds of 4-1 at post time.

I hear what you're saying, but I use the exacta and tri as my place bet, so I see no point in betting him to place.
There's always a chance I could miss the winner and thus my exacta/tri, but I prefer to play it that way & gamble that I'll have the winner on my ticket.

Going to be tied up all day so I'm putting my pick in before scratches
Aug 25 - Race 5
Taking a chance and using a couple of good prices on top in a race that I think may come apart late.
#2 Warrior Richard ran on really well last time while no threat to the winner, who's entered here, galloping out very well. Now gets lasix for a capable barn that hasn't won yet this meet but has a handful of 2nds. Santana having a pretty good meet as well, and has brought home some longshots.
#3 Alternate Reality will benefit from a fast pace and can be there late for Katie. Dwyer experiment (why!?) was a disaster, now he gets back to his kind of company. Previous two races were very nice and are good enough to win this.
Will use on top of many, underneath the classy #1, and gamble that the Rice magic doesn't work on the #6, which I may regret, but you can't use 'em all.
$1 ex: 2-3 w 1-2-3-5-6-10
$2 ex: 1 w 2-3
$3 win: 2-3 (cutoff odds on both will be 4-1)
($20 bet)
Will update for scratches and odds requirements later if I can.
Good luck...is Idiomatic long gone in the feature? Same connections almost did it with Saudi Crown a few weeks ago in the Jim Dandy.

Aug 26 - Travers Day
Race 10
Tough to land anywhere but the big two in here, but I'm going to take a shot with #8 Caramel Swirl to spoil a chalky exacta. She ranged up and looked like a winner last time at Bel, put her head in front, and simply didn't finish. Runs very well when freshened (see her 2 previous races at Sar and the Victory Ride at Bel) so I'm hoping she's sharp and beats the #6 or #7, maybe both Hoping Junior can save some ground instead of coming 4w.
$8 ex: 6-8
$5 ex: 7-8
$4 win: 8 (ya' never know )
($17 bet)
Race 12
Gotta make a pick in the big race, and #2 Arcangelo is my guy. Should get another ground saving trip, get the jump on Forte, and have no real excuse if he doesn't win this.
$10 ex: 2-1
$3 ex: 2 w 3-4-6
($19 bet)
$36.00 total bet - good luck

Arcangelo came through but this is still a rough day with the tragic breakdown of New York Thunder
Bet $36.00 and got back $108.75 today

Aug 27 - Race 9
Can't find much value today so I'll take a total stab with the longshot #4 Sikum for Jose Camejo in a race that may come completely undone late.
Mainly picking her because there will be pace to run at, she's run fairly well at this level, and should get an inside trip. I'm also a bit of a homer - Camejo mainly trains on the Louisiana circuit and has a history of getting some good priced horses to run well in NY (see Barleewon last year).
Hoping the bug boy sits on the rail and waits...and waits...and waits before asking her to go. Maybe they get a piece
$2 ex: 1-8 w 4
50 cent tri: 1-8 w 2-9-12 w 4
$1 tri: 1-8 w 1-3-8 w 4
$7 win: 4 (cutoff odds will be 6-1)
($18 bet)
good luck

more rain
Couldn't find much today with the weather forcing them off the turf again and causing a load of scratches
Aug 30 - Race 6
Hoping to be at or near the 8-1 ML of #5 First Deputy at post time. Need a good price for struggling connections.
Gate problems seem to always put this NY bred ridgling behind the eight ball, but that may be a good thing today with an expected hot pace up front. No great revelation here...hope they go too fast and he can get a piece with his usual late run. 7f distance may help him get there.
Will reluctantly use the #3, who's gone south and now plummets in price off the voided claim (hmmmm...), but his best race wins this easily.
Must use the #4 because that one and my pick are basically a package deal, running with each other a few times.
Throwing in the #2 as well because of his wet track form.
$2 ex: 2-3 w 5
$3 ex: 4-5
$10 win: 5 (cutoff odds will be 5-1)
($17 bet)
*I may come back and cancel this if speed is holding on this track today. Things should dry out a bit before this one goes off though
good luck

Evidently my eyes are failing - he's 6-1 on the ML, not 8-1 - so I'll revise my cutoff odds down to 4-1.
