guys like Repole and Winchell and plenty of others can spend as much money as they want to monopolize the game. it will cost them about half as much money to buy a racehorse at a sale as any of us due to the tax laws. it only makes perfect financial sense to do what they do, if they don't spend it on horses they will have to give it to the government to run the government's programs and pay the debt.

Gotta love that one of our own industry news sources captions the picture accompanying the article to identify Repole as Viola and vice versa.

If you are going to go the colt route imo you are way better off with large numbers because colts are going to tend to be be all or nothing when it comes to a career after racing. You need that diversity to try to reduce the luck factor. I would do it the same way if I had the resources.

With fillies, many more will have a career after racing, but you aren't going to make many major scores.

You can do well either way.

It kind of like homeruns vs getting on base.

Either way, they are good for the game, but given they are so focused on colts, maybe there is a smidgen of value in the fillies because there's less competition.
