Kentucky Derby new gate?

Anyone know the status of this thing?

Could make PP1 less bad...

I know it has been on property for sometime now. they were planning on using it in May, but....

They may not need it this year because there may not be enough horses other than the regular gate is the rumor.

First time since 1997. (And 1997 was a great Derby.)

Everything I’ve seen so far indicates they’ll need that new gate. For the ones that dropped out, more are ready to jump in, including at least one entry with ZERO points.

I sure hope they’ve tested it thoroughly, this being 2020 and all. Don’t wanna see any horses getting locked in at the start.

In the long run, I'd like to see a move away from assistant starters being needed in the gate and go more towards the model used in many other jurisdictions.

Put that in place, return to "a foul is a foul" disqualifications (call it category 3 for lack of a better term - end many of the judgment calls) including right at the start, and I'd be a happier horseplayer. (And no I didn't have Shared Belief.)
