That is why I have always said the Government's job is to provide for a stable environment for our Society to operate in...AND STAY THE HELL OUT OF PEOPLE'S BUSINESS OTHERWISE. If they operated within the guidelines of The Constitution...that would be happening. You are right JustRalph. I believe that is nearly 60% of all taxes in this country. If you tax the wealthy to a nearly ludicrous extent, it only effectively hurts everyone else beneath them in the food chain. IMHO, that is a heck of a lot of people by the way.

You would think that those who earned 21% of the total income would have paid their fair share by paying 21% of the tax. By paying 40% they are accused of not paying their fair share. It would be nice if there was a definition for "fair share" that could be mathematically applied.

A flat tax would never work because it would mean that the rich would pay far less tax. Wouldn't people who earned 21% of the total income pay 21% of total tax using a flat tax? Currently they pay 40%. What am I missing?
