I used the horse in the P4 and was alive with him and another, not the winner. The knock against the 3 was that even though he did look good at three, the TP Poly win especially (Poly form often translates to turf and vice versa), the horse had a year plus layoff and had not run back to his three year old form at all. I was hoping the turf and third off layoff may change things but apparently he is a different horse now. Had no excuse.

The most amazing thing about the race was Sneaky Kitten once again going off as the favorite.. who in their right mind is still betting this horse to win??

And therein lies the point of the thread. This was a field of common New York Breds. You have a horse that raced well on the turf in Europe where he had two seconds. Came to the US and won a race Grade three....who cares that it was on Poly....what would the rest of these do in that race. Race 4th in the Preakness...who cares he clunked along, what would the rest of these do in that race.
Did he race well Saturday....NO....but even a poor effort got him third and clearly his issue with tieing up has been costly to him.
My point of the thread though is how in the world the public handicappers at NYRA discuss at least 1/2 dozen horses in this race and make no mention whatsoever of Went The Day Well...Even to tell us why they dislike him. In fairness to TLG.....He was not there Saturday.

They obviously didn't feel there was much to say about him. Those guys do a great job, and you are going to cherry pick one race and drone on about a 6-1 shot that ran 3rd? Nobody gets every race right, let alone every horse.
By the way, he was 4th in the Derby, not the Preakness.

I would take his winnings any day but you are right he has become an exotic contender at best. You will have another chance with these NY breds 2nd level allowance next Saturday the race will pull on Wednesday.

I don't understand the initial complaint about the M/L and lack of paddock comment. If I liked a horse that was being so overlooked, I would be thankful. Now as to the ride, that's a topic worthy of complaint

Belmont Race 10
Thought this was a thread about SUNDAY'S Race 10. Anyway, I'm adding ODE TO THE HUNT to my Stable Mail, as he won't be a maiden long. Green throughout, and closed well to just get up for the place; there was some interesting D/D action on him back to the losing chalk in the 9th race.

In the DRF it said the inside post should give him an opportunity to get involved early, something he's had an issue with. So.. the gate opens, and the jock immediately grabs him and drops him back.
He moved up in the first half and was grabbed back again. As they turned for home, he had zero kick.
I see Serling griping constantly about all the grabbing that goes on, and it's frustrating. Not saying this horse would have been there at the end otherwise, but I just wanted to see him in a good early position up front for a change.

The horse was taken back from the break. Committed to the rail. Each time a horse in front made the slightest move to the left, Lezcano( Abel) didn't take up, he hit the brakes. He tried unsuccessfully to "push button" the horse three times. Of course the horse spat out the bit.
Now, here's something else. In the 3rd race Abel Lezcano rode to a last place finish in a field of 12. This time, He was last out of the gate by some 5 lengths. Tried to circle the field and was 5 wide mid pack at the head of the stretch. His horse also called it quits before the 3/16th's.
Now to be outdone....( Don't know if these two guys are brothers or even related) but Jose Lezcano gave his backers an almost equally dismal performance.....Jose had 5 mounts. One in the 5th race actually filled out the Super...From there it was a stellar day...
6th race...Got dumped just off the break
7th race....Finished 8th of 9 starters
8th race....GUess what....He beat ONE horse in a field of 9
9th race.....You have got to be kidding.....Field of 9....Wait for it....Beat ONE horse.....
Now back to your virtual stable horse. If I were you, I'd keep betting it. But only with a positive jockey change. I saw nothing wrong with the horse. His stride looked fine. Although it was tough to tell if the horse has any kind of talent at all with this particular rider having him in a freakin strangle hold that would make a pro wrestler proud....Jesus Christ...Let the horse run.....
