Santa Anita dirt

Never thought I'd see the day a Santa Anita mile race was run in 1:45+ and the last quarter in 32+. What the hell was that?

Thing is, they really looked like they were going that slow, too. Odd.

Might portend the future at Del Mar and BC?

“We’ve got the same El Segundo sand from the same batch at both Santa Anita and Del Mar,” Moore noted.

No doubt. Having watch the race I don't even question the time at all. They were practically walking late.

Keep an eye on Irish Freedom in Saturday's 5th race. He has looked like a star in two races at Del Mar and hasn't liked Santa Anita much in his two starts there. If Santa Anita's surface has changed he could be a good weathervane-- he's entered against some nice horses including Hoppertunity (who I used to laugh at but who has a streak of triple digit Beyers going back to summer 2015, which is very tough to do).
