It hasn't stopped raining.....if it continues for until Saturday I'm guessing they are going to delay opening day to make sure the grounds are better for racing.

It's going to continue to Saturday but Sunday seems fairly clear. They likely have the track sealed and will open it up Sunday. Some turf races will likely stay on but not all. Then again you could be right. Hope they let us know before I drive up there tomorrow night.

Current models show the bulk of the system now far to the west - with the remainder of the system in the LA area moving far enough west that Arcadia (where Santa Anita is located) should begin to clear about 1:00 pm Friday.
The models also show another band farther out over the Pacific headed onshore. This second band isn't as strong as the one that hit yesterday. It should be over the LA area Saturday afternoon and evening. The Arcadia area could see some light rain (up to about 0.15 inches) on Saturday.
Things look clear for Sunday after that.

It's raining significantly in Arcadia today. But it looks like tomorrow is cold but clear. So I expect opening day to go as scheduled but wouldn't be surprised if monday is canceled.

Precip Summary Report 12-26-2021
A while back I developed a model that estimates residual moisture in the soil given precip and avg daily temp over the past several days.
Right now the model is estimating about 1.17 inches of residual moisture in the soil where Santa Anita is located.
If the grounds crew was able to seal the dirt surface before it started raining - and keep it sealed during the rain - there will be considerable less residual moisture in the dirt surface.
But there isn't much the grounds crew can do about the turf.

The Stronachs pulled some strings and got the storm delayed until the evening tonight. So they will get the card in.

Wednesday is supposed to be NASTY, we're tracking it here at work (for purposes other than racing, of course).

So instead of canceling the Monday card, Santa Anita screwed the bettors, by leaving the 7th and 9th on the turf until the rains came and the turf became unsafe, and then moving them off. Anyone who bet one of the horizontals is cursing the track.

I think it was a jockey decision to come off the turf, not the tracks. Don't think the track can really force them to ride.
