NYRA

At the end of the day, NYRA puts out the best product available in the US.

Finally a racing jurisdiction has, at some risk of earning the wrath of the whales, the stones to do the right thing by its customers .
I'm good with this.

Exactly, GB. We can hope. If not...tracks admit they are in bed with them.

I am glad NYRA is continuing to address the issue of computerized wagers. Having watched tote boards and will pays since 1 BC (first breeders cup), it was apparent tracks that took heavy computerized wagers were becoming unplayable. The win odds line curve was becoming flat, and it was rare to see longshot exactas payout what they used to. Without the occasional big hit the chances of having a good year are almost impossible. The computers were tamping down the big hits via what ever strategy the hedging programs dictated. The only value left in this equation was at the short end of the pools maybe a horse that should be 4/5 would go off at 6/5. You need a lot to go right to sort out favorites day after day and you never really new where the odds were going to land with the late changes.

Having said all that I doubt this recent change in the win pool wagering is going to stop late money for coming in on a horse. Some barns do not want to tip the crowd to a live horse in order to keep the odds up on a good thing. We can all bet with the push of a button so that is not going to go away. It's different than having a computer scan for inefficiencies with seconds to go and making a 5to1 horse 7/2, after just about everyone else has bet on the race. No one should have the advantage of the last look at the odds over anyone else.

I also assume that NYRA never liked to send money to the same ADW's month after month in order to reconcile accounts. Much like a Blackjack card counter after awhile you are going to kick them out of the casino.

This is wildly incorrect and beyond irrelevant. The CAW players are defined. They aren't spread around certain ADWs. NYRA does not "like" or dislike what ADWs we settle with. It doesn't work that way.

Off the top of my head ,

I'm thinking ...WHY NOW NYRA???

you didn't give a shit for many years....

Could it be that Legalized Gambling is coming to New York???

So us , as customers, are going to say....

"Should we bet on a crooked sport like horse racing....

or

Bet a crooked basketball game...

you get the point...

Mike

Not sure if it has anything to do with "legalized gambling"

The wagering markets, racing or otherwise, as a whole have evolved.

Just a guess
I believe the OP is claiming that once sports betting on line becomes legal in NY, those who bet horse racing will abandon horse racing take their business over to the sports books.
Again, just a guess
