Horse Racing Video Games + you CAN play G1 Jockey & Gallop Racer on your PC!

http://www.startersorders.com/

Anyone ever play this game? Seems like the most recent game available and also seems pretty substantial (except for the crappy in-race graphics).

Gets decent reviews on Steam, which surprised me enough to consider buying: http://store.steampowered.com/app/46..._Horse_Racing/

But I didn't buy Starters Orders yet....BECAUSE....

Maybe I'm the only one who just discovered this, but last night I stayed up until almost 5 in the morning playing my favorite horse racing video game of all time (sorry cj, it's not Gallop Racer), G1 Jockey 3...the playstation 2 game, ON MY PC!

I kind of knew in the back of my mind that PS2 emulators existed for the PC, but either I never got around to it, or thought it really wouldn't work all that well.

Not so. It works perfectly...

So here's what you need to do it:

Overview and some instructions:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-...es-on-your-pc/

Link to the emulator you will need (Windows version):
https://pcsx2.net/download.html

A link to a program that will unzip 7z archives (if you don't have a program that can handle 7z archive files):
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

A link to where you can get a PS2 Bios for your new emulator...note, this link is provided for informational purposes only...and although this site seems safe and there are no viruses or malware in the files I saw, make sure you answer no to any of the come-ons that pop up here asking you to install an add-on in Chrome (the browser I use)...as long as you answer NO to any questions asking you to install something after you click that DOWNLOAD button, you'll be OK. I did a complete virus/malware scan on everything I downloaded and my entire system afterwards...all came back clean.

Same site, but here is the link to the G1 Jockey 3 ROM, again, provided for informational purposes only:
https://www.loveroms.com/download/pl...ockey-3/155432

Well, there you go...for the Gallop Racer fans out there, I'm sure you can find that one too.

That is how I play Gallop Racer, on PC with an emulator. It makes it so much faster, especially the breeding part. That said it has been at least a year since I've played. Maybe after the BC I'll have some time. The G1 Jockey 3 game is definitely a better game, I just like the simplicity of the original GR.

A controller is probably the best way, keyboard shortcuts beat up your machine.

I'm glad others on here play these games.

I still play Gallop Racer on my PS2. I have to look when I get home, but I think the game is from like 2003 or 2004. Needless to say, I play it a lot.

You should try the emulator. It is so much faster than the PS2.

I played this a few years back on PS2, the Breeder's Cup World Thoroughbred Championships with Tom Durkin.

I don't remember much about it other than I bred (or bought) a horse with incredible statistics and I won my races easily..

That was probably the worst video game ever created!

I have the original PSOne Gallop Racer running on my smartphone emulator (which oddly can be found and purchased legally on Google Play...only downloading the game ISO is technically illegal).

Unfortunately, smartphones can't run PS2-era games. They're just too graphically intensive.
