Rainy Derby Day?
Just checked forecast for the week in Louisville. Shows thunderstorms on Saturday, but I don't know how accurate the Apple weather app is.
Throws a wrench in the works...gonna have to make a list of back up picks.

Forecast sounds similar to the Smarty Jones year, going to be hot and the skies could open up at any time, even 90 mins before.

Well, seems the weather app forecast is pretty far off the mark.

Early Derby Weather
For Saturday:
Partly cloudy with thunderstorms and rain showers. High of 91F with a heat index of 102F. Winds less than 5 mph. Chance of rain 40%.
Time to call the bullpen and tell Calvin Borel to start warming up.
On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the high temp and chance of rain goes down lower each day, so it is on the way out (as opposed to "incoming").
Right now, flying is VFR (Visual Flight Rules). I use aviation weather.
A record warm low temperature of 68 degrees was tied at Louisville
KY on May 3... first set in 1899. Strange. Jim

This is one thing that is difficult for me to understand, maybe you can help:
1. What kind of horses benefit from running in slop? Closers? Speedballs?
2. Will they do something with the track (like "sealing" it) that will actually favor a different kind of horse than the slop would?
3. Which horses specifically are bred for slop or wet tracks in this derby? How can you tell who will run well on them?

Here's the conventional wisdom
http://www1.drf.com/misc/tomlinson.html
me,,,,,,,, I ignore most of it. Until I see a verified multi race pattern of running on the wet successfully I don't pay much attention to it.
Now, a track bias due to weather, that I pay attention to.

All lot of handicappers I know thinks a sloppy track favors front runners and good(drying) track favors closers. For what it worth.
