That is because all the democrats that were in office back then are still in office today, and most are even daffier than Joe. So he looks smart to them.

I remember the days when republicans and democrats were both rational people with different priorities and different ideas for how to achieve a shared desire to make the country safe, grow the economy, and help people in need.
The debates were about direct assistance like welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, and more money for public schools etc.. or enterprise zones, school vouchers, etc..
The debates were about whether we needed more money to keep our military edge over the Soviet Union or more money for domestic needs.
The debates were about tax rates and their impact on the economy and people's behavior.
Now, I see many democrats as a bunch of economically delusional batch shit crazy lunatics and prospective mental illness patients that may do well in this election because some republicans and many moderates don't like Trump and because most of the mainstream media and social media tech companies are made up of politically active spinners, liars, and scumbags that wouldn't recognize journalism or their true role in a democracy if it was staring them in the face.
And I say that as someone that is NOT a Trump fan overall because of the way he deals with people but who agrees with some of his policies and disagree with others.

I don't know how one could make a prediction prior to Sunday night. So much is coming out, things CAN swing on one story
Right now I'd guess
Biden. MN, NC, NV
Trump. MI, PA, FL, GA, AZ
WI I'd hope would go trump but it's so close. Can't call right now and I probably should put MI. PA in that same category
TX is not purple, but as the video up thread states, it's trying to be stolen by the dems. Trump wins here by NLT 8 pts given a fair election
