Authentic looks tough. Wide draw and the long run to the first turn, probably help him, given his tendency to break a bit wild, and rush up.

Pretty good field, where pretty much all of horses can hit the board with a good trip.

The Triple Clowns have a Preakness video coming out. I did a little betting strategy segment.

NYRA Bets and Serling has a preview coming out soon.

DRF will surely have some.

youtubers (Ellis Star, Derbyologist, etc...) = lot of good handicappers

then there's the "LET IT RIDE!" strategy (cross out and eliminate all the 'tips')

I think Art Collector, if he is at his Kee form, will crush this group.

Suppose they gave a Preakness and nobody came.

Not much chatter yet about a TC event.

You could be right!
In my preview at the end, I went against Art Collector.

I only watched to see PA/Md local favorite Robert Fischer's segment, all due respect to the 3x Clowns. I also echo rasta's sentiment that there's sadly little buzz here.

I agree with RF on as the live longshot. But I'm inclined to invert his play on the two favorites, and try to get out of the exacta.

Excession. That 203 day layoff jumps out at you. It's not a great angle for Asmussen. Second to Nadal last time, but that was in the slop. Pass.

Mr. Big News. Last one in the Derby was the time to have him, as I did for a show bet that salvaged all my other losing wagers for a break even on the race. My angle then was distance, and that's not so special here. But you can't take away that class and speed on his recent record now. He's also still got the second best late kick (barring the unlikely rival inside) in what looks to be a hot pace. But that's not compelling enough at 12/1 5th choice. Hard to de-emphasize my last fruitful longshot, but probably only worth considering third or fourth underneath, unless the price improves.

Art Collector. Maybe I'm a sucker for second chalk, but this is the one I want between the two. Won its last handily and put up a good fig in a classy Blue Grass two back, from a nice stalking position that could fare well here. I'd like to see a more compelling late pace rating to put any real money on this one, but I think it's the better bet of the top two.

Swiss Skydiver. I actually like this one on paper, especially the best TFUS late rating of the frontrunning three, comfortably inside the favorite leader. Solid figs and class last three. Not to be sexist, but I think she'll be overbet accordingly. That one-two punch of early-late late pace figs keeps me interested.

Thousand Words. Among the more lightly raced, which I'm on record as being enamored of. Wired a pretty good horse in Honor A.P. last time (did I mention that one beat today's favorite?), and has shown ability to stalk and pounce before that. Best late pace rating of the front five—on paper, that's the ideal trip. Will keep in the mix for that reason.

Jesus' Team. Best speed fig came two back running second to a more interesting longshot here in Pneumatic. Having trouble remembering why this one was not an even harder toss than .

Ny Traffic. Maybe this guy has enough excuses to be a dark horse. Draw a line though the fruitless Derby tactics last time and you're looking at a promising emergence from the Haskell. But also an onset of seconditis. Could be a solid underneath play accordingly. Projects to run 5th early, but tied with the two top favorites for least late pace. I'll point to that reason why I barred it from my tickets.

Max Player. A wise guy horse on the NY circuit has certainly run in good company last three times. Class alone carries this one out of the dustbin. But it's that bigass late pace fig I want. May well be coming from last, but the field's not impenetrably large. Pretty much a must-use underneath and may well have a shot at the whole thing if the faves get cooked up front.

Authentic. That Derby win proved most of us wrong. I don't want to indiscriminately toss the favorite. I just think this one gets overbet. Accordingly, the value in this race is getting him off the top. There are plenty that can run underneath. It'll get hot in the front, with the leading contenders inside. Only way to prevail is to take it to this one. Like its only loss in the Santa Anita Derby—at 2/5. This one has accomplished the most in the least races, with bracing room to improve. But the favorite has a target on its back, and I think the play is with one of the patient shooters.

Pneumatic. Lightest raced in 6th start. Legit fig last puts it in the mix here. That win came just off the pace which should play well here. I'm afraid I'm not getting 20/1, and I'd like to see more late pace. But it's otherwise a Goldilocks pace play at a price with upside (and a hot jock to boot).

Liveyourbeastlife. Big price, late kick, not too far back in the pack, overlooked connections, should handle the distance, checks all the boxes but for obvious class and speed figs. Outran odds in the Jim Dandy last out and at 30-1 is absolutely worth a punt.

I'll have to get back to you on a wager. I need to do better than hard toss on and . Of the two chalks, I prefer , but not convinced it can outlast the other frontrunners. Getting both chalks out of the exacta is a pretty grim prospect, but all the others seem to have a say in the mix. The and have the best odds of the ones I like, so I'll include those. The is probably the best proposition of likelihood and value, so I'll key that one in wider spreads.

Maybe a +++ exacta box for the big swing, and key the with those and some chalk in a few deeper combos, using the only defensively.

Thanks Aerocraft.
Good breakdown.
Thousand Words does scare me as a board-hitter, if he runs back to the tactics of the Los Alamitos Derby (where he stalked Uncle Chuck).
Always excited for the Preakness, and this is actually a cool field IMHO.
2 strong, well-liked chalks without invincible certainty.
Underneath; - you've got most of the field with a chance for a board spot depending on things like pace, and trips, and tactics. Kind of complex underneath. Both chalks have a chance for a say in divisional awards and perhaps a BC race. You've even got a nice filly in the race.

thanks for the Maryland support The Big-3 Triple Clowns are good people, and they've put in a ton of consistent work (and often early morning on West-Coast time) w/out a sponsorship network so far. They've managed to land some serious guests (Kinchen, Aragona, Stevens, CJ Craig Milkowski, Mountain Man Mark Patterson, Vic Stauffer, Britney Eurton, Nick 'Sarge' Hines, some folks from TVG, and Myracehorse.com, and a bunch of other major players...).

They've given me a little chance to play along, add some input, and that has meant a lot.

Nick "Sarge" Hines (Twitter = @Hinesite) is going to make a regular appearance on Triple Clowns live stream for Santa Anita cards, for some early multis, and race by race insights from the paddock/parade. He's impressed me as a guy who has a legitimately deep knowledge of the game, and is able to convey things like lead changes to a casual fan. That's going to be a good resource for those who like to play the west coast tracks.

It's official - the TC is OVER.....COVID releated death.

The porta-potty races were much better entertainment than this shit.
