Fort McHenry
Entered MTO in the 1st at Saratoga on Saturday, first time starter 2 year old in a route race.
This is one to watch. By Tapit from Love the Chase, which makes him a dam-side three quarter brother to California Chrome.
Sold for 1.1M at the Keeneland September yearling sale to Michael Tabor.
Trained by Pletcher, who has put a bunch of good works into him.

He easily got outworked by Candy Tycoon. But maybe that one is a freak.
I've watched most of Fort McHenry's works and he just seems ordinary. But maybe routing will bring out the talent in him. I assume that's why Fort McHenry is a MTO in a turf route tomorrow.

Interesting. A big name stable paid a bundle for him so he must have looked great as a yearling.
The MTO thing is a bit strange, in that California Chrome was effective on turf (and synthetic). So the horse probably wouldn't have a problem with the footing if the race stayed on grass.

The fact they went with a MTO tells me they were looking for a soft spot.

Also, interesting that there is a horse with a ton of dirt breeding in Market Impact yet they are starting him on the turf.

Fort McHenry is in an $8K Claimer NW2 LT on the turf at GGF today. Race 8 #4. I dont think they will recoup the $1.1M investment.

I suspect someone will take a shot @ a claim for $8K
(I would find myself single if I did)

Maybe turf is the answer. 1st time turf today. Dam offspring turf/route runners at 20%. Worth a shot.

'On paper', it's a great spot for him.
If he's a huge favorite = for me

I don't think Fort McHenry wants race, hopefully he makes a nice pet for somebody.
