So many great memories. From coach, to announcer, to video game. When heads as big as Buck and Aikman admit you were the best, you know it's true.

John and Pat were the greatest duo ever, they make everyone else look like amateurs.

I think Romo is pretty damn good. But I’ll never forget Madden teams with guys like Stabler.

They don’t make em like that anymore…….

So many memorable games. The Immaculate DECEPTION. The holy roller. The Ghost to the post. The Heidi game. Super Bowl XI. A legend is every aspect. The autumn wind is a Raider. A truly sad day.

In the 1980s, there were some who criticized Madden's announcing as being too over the top, all the "Boom!" and yelling. Then, when there were a dozen guys trying to do weak copies of what Madden did, you could really see how good he was and how much information and fun he imparted while calling a game. That sense of fun and someone who enjoyed what he was watching might be what is most missed now (though as noted Romo is quite good in a totally different style of announcing). And of course Summerall was the perfect partner for him.

On top of that, he was a brilliant coach of some extremely colorful teams (best winning percentage of any coach in history who coached 100 NFL games), and the only 85-year-old who teenagers still thought was relevant because his name was on the most well-known sports video game of all time. He had amazing success in three different venues and was a great guy too. RIP John.

to a great legend

I play the Madden NFL games on the PS4 and enjoy them very much but if I had a decision to put someone on the cover for madden 2023/23 I would definitely put John Madden no questions asked

I know that would break tradition but I seriously would do that for him

Coached some amazing Raider teams. Stabler was his student and it showed. An overachiever.
RIP...tough guy.

The NFL needs to name something after him.

Does the MVP Award have a name?

The John Madden MVP Award sounds great.

Rest in peace, John Madden. Best ever sportscaster in the NFL as far as I am concerned.

John Madden is far and away the best color commentator any sport has seen or heard. Thought Dan Dierdorf and Don Merideth were good, but ...

I thought nobody could be as bad as Dennis Miller was, but Romo and Booger McFarland are fingernails on a chalkboard.

Agree except for Romo, he just needs to stop talking so much. I swear he doesn't even pause to breathe.

Back in a land far away in another place and time when Chick Hearn did a simulcast he would apologize to the TV audience for talking too much.

As much as California has went downhill and I did not flee the state till almost the age of 50, it was a great place to grow up as a hardcore sports fan.

Look at the list of sportscasters and announcers that covered games and events there as a career or where they got their start to popularity.

John Madden as the coach of the Raiders.

Vin Sculley the voice of the Dodgers.

Dick Enberg voice of the California Angels and Los Angeles Rams.

Harry Henson, track announcer Hollywood Park, honorable mention to Vic Stauffer.

Trevor Denman, track announcer Santa Anita, Delmar, Fairplex Park.

Jim Rome, sports talk, started at the Mighty 690am in San Diego.

The list goes on and on,................
