There's a decent chance that Death Valley will see a high temperature this weekend between 130 and 132F, which (if it occurs) would either tie or break record for the hottest temperature reliably measured on Earth. #CAwx #CAheat https://t.co/TjBAevMTiN

A ferocious heatwave inflamed by carbon pollution is baking southern Europe, posing severe health risks to older people and those with underlying health conditions.

Scorching heat has already hit several countries, with local media reports of tourists collapsing in Greece and Italy, and an outdoor worker dying near Milan. Temperatures are expected to hit 42C in Athens on Saturday, 41C in Seville on Monday and 40C in Rome on Tuesday.

I got 133 in the pool.

But you said "reliable" measurement...so you can't say for sure it would the hottest, becaus all previous measurements are suspect.

89 right now in the house

maintenance was here yesterday and eventually diagnosed the AC unit as having a broken part. Didn't return today. Think he'll be back Monday.

3 fans and it's more bearable 1am to dawn.

cold shower without towel lasts a good 15 minutes of coolness.

should get better overnight with some rain and low of 72.

i have some great looking plays for Saturday and Sunday from just a quick review of watch lists, but it's not easy to focus with heat and other issues.

Planning on forcing myself to a simulcast location relatively early tomorrow. Maybe I can focus better 'on location'?

No way I could stand that, about 82 is all I can tolerate indoors. I would be staying in a hotel. AC repair is a racket, if it is a part only the manufacturer sells, a DIY person like myself is screwed, as they will only sell to licensed contractors. Also a lot of the parts like the capacitors have no markings on them. I fixed mine by guessing right on a bad capacitor, it took a lot of research.

not just a local phenomenon

A fierce anticyclone named after Cerberus, a three-headed monster-dog that features in Dante’s Inferno, had not even ended before Italians were warned that a more intense one called Caronte, or Charon, who in Greek mythology was the ferryman of the dead, was on its way.

Italy sweltered in temperatures reaching highs of 38C over the weekend, while Caronte will grip the country from Monday, sending the mercury beyond 40C in central and southern regions, with the islands of Sicily and Sardinia possibly hitting a peak of 48C.

“I’ve never experienced the heat this bad – it’s not normal,” he said. “We had heavy rain in June and then suddenly it was 40C. Now they say it’s going to be even worse next week.”

What do you think happens to temperatures after a 5,000 year cooling cycle?

They start going up for perhaps thousands of years...just like they went down for thousands of years before that.

The whole thing is pretty much a scam.

It's all part of the trend to just LIE about everything and turn everything into a crisis such that more POWER and MONEY can be obtained from the plebs.

If you believe "the science," then please, by all means, write Chairman Xi and tell him to stop burning so much coal.

How come you aren't demanding sanctions be placed on China (like Russia for the war) until they come into line with all the other demands being placed on all other western nations regarding cutting back on fossil fuel carbon emissions?

Which country is the biggest polluter? Start there.

Where's all the articles about Joe Biden and John Kerry placing demands on China? Threatening them with economic sanctions? Maybe we should send billions to China to help them get off their reliance on coal?

maddog42, maybe you want to post some links to those articles?

Oh, they don't exist?

WHY NOT?

Seems your dear leader doesn't really take this very seriously...so why should I?
