He had to "withdraw" from his scheduled press conference today (as host of the Genesis Open at Riviera). Disappointing.

I'll watch Tiger shoot an 80, as it is more entertaining to me than the other 120+ players on the tour right now regardless of what they shoot.

I love Arnie, but your memory is a little fuzzy. Palmer was never on top "for so long". He won his first major in 1958 and his last in 1964. His best years were 1960-63. Better than Johnny Miller by far, but less so than Watson, Woods, and Nicklaus.
First to last major (in years)
Nicklaus (24 years) - 17 majors
Woods (11 years) - 14
Watson (8 years) - 8
Palmer (6 years) - 7
I would also say that Nicklaus, Woods, and Watson were the best on Tour for a longer period than Palmer. Not cutting on Palmer at all, as he is top 5-7 all time, but he just doesn't compare to the other three, who are top 5 themselves. JMO

He does what he does. If he wins another one some, great for him. If not, oh well. It's his and his sponsors dime.

During his prime he was way better than Nicklaus or Palmer during theirs. The competition also was far and away better.
Many people dislike Tiger by judging his personality as well as his golf game. Whether you like him or not, he ignited the sport of golf. TV ratings rose, and after Tiger they fell. If nothing else, his age will prevent him being his former self on the course. I do believe if he returns healthy, he'll win again.

For not being on top for so long he amassed 62 PGA wins vs Watson's 39. That's a mere 23 more wins than Watson. Winning 23 times on the PGA tour puts you in the HOF.

If he skips Augusta, I'd say it looks bleak he will ever show up anywhere again. If he shows up at Augusta though...maybe his plan will be to only play the majors?
He can play the Masters for life.
The U.S. Open is trickier. His exemption runs out afer next year.
He can play the British Open until he's 65.
I don't remember the PGA Championship rule...thinking it's exemption for life, but I forget.

The Open Championship is age 60 or under - PGA Championship is for life.

sorry, just saw this post. In the era Arnie played in, with more limited fields (mainly white American country clubbers), amassing win totals was far easier than even 20 years later and certainly 50 years later. There were no tours other than the PGA. Even the Euro Tour didn't begin until 1984. Extremely few foreigners played in the USA outside the majors back in the day. Granted, Arnie got his wins fair and square, but if I go by the eye test, I'm taking Watson. He was a much steadier golfer in most areas compared to Arnie. He just happened to be up against Jack and Johnny and a few foreigners during his heydey. Again, that makes what Tiger did even more impressive. He competed with the world's best each week, not just each major.

MASTERS PREDICTIONS
I think Tiger Woods will play.
With that said, I'm predicting something around 75-75 for him if he tries. I have no hope of at least two good rounds.

Doesn't sound like it.
He doesn't want to show up and shoot 80.
l'd still watch him shoot 80.
