Will Horse Racing get any focus after Lance Armstrong/Richard Dutrow situations?
Lance Armstrong will have spent 3 hours talking about the power of performance enhancing drugs, bring this issue squarly into the general population. Coincidently, this aired on the same day that one of the all-time leading trainers (Richard Dutrow), who was extremely close to winning the Triple Crown, was put out to pasture after many drug related infractions.
Is there any chance at all that the spotlight will be shined on horse racing? Isn't horse racing the real, last bastian of flowing PED's? Or is this game so meaniningless that the general population could care less?

Haven't you been listening to what practically every single trainer has been saying all along?
Yes...these drugs have a miraculous affect on human performance -- but they do not affect the on-track performance of the equine athletes in the least.

Are you being serious? A (or some) trainer has said such an asinine thing?

While I don't excuse drugging up horses, if you look at the size of pretty much any NFL player or track star, no, no one really cares about PEDs. It's brought up when it's convenient to do so, but they are widespread and pretty much par for the course. I know Lance Armstrong was doping, but so was everyone else he raced against (read up about the bike racing circuit).
Also, no one in the general population knows or cares about Rick Dutrow. For better or worse, it's a sport where being the fastest is the best---we're never going back to hay, oats and water (if we were ever there).

If it does I'm sure it will be negative.

I think most outsiders already think the game is thoroughly crooked.
I also think the insiders could care less. They don't want to clean up anything, just keep it quiet and maintain the status quo.
I don't the majority of people in the industry give a rat's ass about their customers - most have no clue who their customer is.
Dutrow was just a bone thrown out there to shut up the stinking masses.
If there was a real desire to clean up the game, it would not have stopped with him.

Can you improve your ROI on EPO?
Maybe we need to drug test some of these handicapping contests.

Because negativity sells, these people who report stuff arent in the feel good business, they're in the ratings and selling business. Its unfortunate that some people in the media have 'opinions' that are for sale to the highest bidder.

What I meant was, why would anyone write a positive story about horse racing when there is so much wrong with it and so obviously wrong.
It's like commenting on how nice the paint job is on a burning house.

Because it could be turned (or spun) into a positive thing, that there is enforcement of the rules. Politicians do it all the time but that's for a different forum. Facts are irrelevant to the uninformed. It's how it is presented. Perception is reality.
