The thing is who is well known enough to take on Trump ?.Reagan and Ted Kennedy couldn't upend a sitting president so unless someone like Jeb Bush (what the world needs now  ) wants to take a shot , I don't see it happening.

It’s normal for the oppo party to do well in the mid terms. It’s just the way things have shaken out for decades. Blaming Trump excessively won’t get Kristol anywhere he wants to go. He’s been anti Trump from the start. He’s easy to ignore

I'm not pretending he will be successfully primaried but the GOP could resort to infighting.
More that there are already wings of the party that oppose him. Some vocal. Some not.
A lot of Republicans think he's economically illiterate. There are threads to dedicated to that here.
Evangelicals could turn on him if his record doesn't improve.
Border security could turn on him since he hasn't accomplished anything there.
