Being Pretty - Women of the Past

This link was sent to me by a good friend and I think for those of us in the 50-60 age range, it says a lot.

Read and comment if you choose.

While it's clear girls are dressing in a more provocative fashion, this line from the piece is the silliest thing I've ever read.

But here is the real truth. Most men prefer pretty over hot. Even back in 6th grade I hated the “hot” Olivia Newton John and felt sorry for her that she had to debase herself in such a way. Still do.
Debase, baby. Debase.

Somewhere in the mid to late 90's the style for American women & girls suddenly became 'dirty ho'

One has to understand the point of reference for the author, the NC Register...and myself-- The inner life of the Trinity that man is created to share in through grace.

Sex is a metaphor for the total self- donating love of the communion of Persons in the Trinity. "Debasing", objectifying, self- gratuitous attitudes and dress thwart this view of human dignity.

Perhaps the author should have stated, "Most men ought to prefer pretty over hot".

Do tell? Well if that's the case you need to talk to our resident theologian. Are you familiar with the works of Boxcar? He has some notions about mini-skirts you might like.

No, it's my first foray into the off-topic themes.
I doubt I have anything he wants, and I'm guessing he doesn't have anything I want.

There is a reason why most men prefer the "pretty" women rather than the "hot" ones.

The hot women want nothing to do with most men.

So most men gravitate to the "pretty women"...mistaking their "innocence" for naivette...

And speaking of "hot"...the Russian women win by a landslide.

I'll take interesting and intelligent over 'pretty' or 'sexy' every time. Most of the celebrity sex symbols seem as shallow and dull as a coat of cheap paint.

This is like looking at art or listening to music, each to their own taste. Personally, I'd rather see Hollywood filled with women that look like Natalie Wood rather than worn-out 20-somethings like Lindsay Lohan. On the flipside, I don't mind Scarlett Johansson's sultriness without being trampy style.

the part about hotness being traded like a commodity says it all.

Pretty is everlasting in my opine. All commodities have a shelf life.

There is an inner and outer version of both pretty and hot.

Hot makes assumptions that pretty doesn't need.

Preference..........?

What's that old saying?............Men prefer Hot looking girls for a date but they prefer the Pretty ones for wives.......!!!

But has anyone look at the men these days?.............terrible looking, scruffy, tatoos, earings.........they don't compare to men 20, 30, 40 years ago......!

Heart of gold?
Tell that to Debbie Reynolds or Sybil Burton.
(Taylor enraptured both of their husbands. Taylor married 8 times, twice to Richard Burton.)
