Do Horsemen make figures?
Anyone know of trainers who 'make figures'? Most all of us do to assess our chances of finding the winning horse. That's what this site was designed for.
Do trainers?
And if not, why not?

I'm sure some do but can't say I know of any. Some of the bigger names do use Ragozin or Thoro-graph-Asmussen, Tom Amoss,Mike Hushion, and I believe Frankel(RIP) come to mind. How about jockey agents?Unless you have a big name rider, wouldn't it pay to know who the improving 3 and 4 yr.olds are and act quickly to line up future mounts for your guy?

There are certainly trainers that use figures, but I doubt there are any that actually make their own. They use Beyers or some other available source (Sheets, Kuck ratings, etc). I know some trainers use figs to identify candidates to be claimed.
Do they use them day-to-day to place their horses? Probably not too much. Do they?

I see very few posters here that seem to be making their own figures these days.

I wouldn't have it any other way. There is no other way to know what went into a particular figure, should you question its accuracy. As an added bonus, you have the variant right alongside the figures. There are some horses that prefer hard and fast tracks and also the converse. There was a fast filly in the mid 90s named Desert Stormer who ran her best races on tracks with a high + variant. Like someone (Pittsburgh Phil?) said, I don't plan to lose my money on someone else's typographical error.

I used to make them. I don't any more. They are way too much work if you do them right for the value they have now days. The big value you get today is you know when a number is questionable.

A lot of times when I see big time trainers they're taking one phone call after another. If they're that busy and being at the track before sunrise, I doubt they're taking the time to make their own figs.

I think that Maggi Moss uses Ragozin to claim horses. Probably to place them also.

Almost all trainers/jockey agents at the major league tracks use the Sheets.

Do you have stats to back this up or is it just conjecture?
