No Poles On The Gulfstream Tapeta Track?

Who else has noticed this? I'm referring to there not being a half-mile pole, a quarter pole, an eighth pole, etc.

But it is awesome that there is only a 12-foot gap between the inner rail on the Tapeta and the outer rail on the turf course.

At the Meadowlands, for example, the gap between the main track and the turf course was 25 feet.

And how do I know that? Because the width of the turf course is 80 feet (on the main track, which is no longer used for thoroughbred racing, it is 90 feet) - and as per the value of pi, the inside rail of a 7-furlong turf course is always 105 feet from the inside rail of a 1-mile main track.

See? Paying attention in geometry class actually was actually good for something!

I assume they are using the turf course poles for timing purposes.

Maybe they are on back-order.

The poles that aren't up are never used for timing, they are just for the fans to see how much of the race is left. There are different pieces of equipment for beam timing that you can usually spot if you know what you're looking for.

But, at Gulfstream, the races are being timed by Trakus. So you don't need poles or the timing eyes.

So, do you bet the horse that knows geometry?
