Help with DRF designation

I buy info directly from the source and download it to the computer so when I see a DRF edition, it is usually on the way back to the television studio, picking up a discarded copy.

Saturday, in studying the pp's in the Stephen Foster, I noted a designation that I NEVER seen before and no one could explain it to me. In the pp's of Curlin and Einstein (his was from the Pimlico Special where the track was muddy) there was a superscript near lines from tracks that were sloppy (in Curlin's case) and muddy, with a small "S" next to it.

Anyone know what that designates?

Thanks

I would guess that the track was "sealed"

Just about EVERYTIME when our local oval is off, it is sealed. I have never seen the designation there. Might be.

Maybe other venues do not actively seal it as often??

Don't know.

The superscript "s" after the track condition in the drf PDF versions corresponds to the "sealed_track_ind" field in the .csv files. "Henry West" who raced in yesterday's 2nd at Hastings shows 3 races in his PP's, all from Hastings, with "sly" and superscript "s".

Thanks...that's telling on how often I don't use the DRF any longer.

Same here. Aren't sloppy tracks always sealed? Not sure why they would bother putting that in there.

A track may be sealed in anticipation of heavy rains as well, so it is a different state than a track that is just sloppy

Good point. I would still give it a 50/50 chance of going the way of the nasal strip though.
