There was a section 8 family in the first neighborhood I lived in Riverside Ca. I suppose the term for them would be white trash, they were early 30's with 4 kids, all girls. The oldest about 12 was very bright in spite of it all and good friends with my friend across the street's daughter. She fed us all the families doings and finances. I was just starting my business after adding on to my garage. The girl even asked me how much I paid for rent. I said I was buying $693 a month payment, I said renting in the neighborhood would be $700-$800. She told me they paid $75. I was just about ready to quit my last job that paid $28.12 an hour. On a 40 hr week it would have been a break even for me to afford what the government was giving them. This was 30 and some small change years ago. Of course I only had the house to write off.
If I had a wife and four kids I would have had a little more money.
The girl said she never remembers her parents working and I think most kids can remember back to 2-3 years old. They of course never married.
They did consume a lot of pot and the house was a pig sty inside and out.
I don't know how to fix those people, but giving them hoards of free stuff does not usually work. I always wonder what happened to that girl.
I have no issue for temporary help for people hit with some bad luck, but these people like many were parasites.
