Hard call for Bloomberg coming up immediately. The NYC Marathon goes this weeekend. A close friend's daughter is running in it.
Go? No Go?
And all that is part of either decision.

So far, it's a go, but if power stays out, it'll have to be cancelled.
I get the feeling people don't realize the seriousness of this situation.
Most of the buildings have their water tanks on the rooves. The water gets up to the roof via a pump. No electricity, no pump. Once the tanks empty, no water.
I have a couple of five gallon compound buckets which had I filled in advance so I could fill the toilet tank in case the lights went out. Fortunately I didn't lose power.

Having posted that, I decided to check into that claim deeper.
The truth be told it has been established that this is an urban myth.
The NY Times reported it. A researcher several years later debunked it.
Wiki reports:
The myth of the blackout baby boom
A thriving urban legend arose in the wake of the Northeast Blackout of 1965, in which it is told that a peak in the birthrate of the blackout areas was observed nine months after the incident. The origin of the myth is a series of three articles published in August 1966 in the New York Times,[5] in which interviewed doctors told that they had noticed an increased number of births.
The story was debunked in 1970 by J. Richard Udry, a demographer from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who did a careful statistical study that found no increase in the birthrate of the affected areas.

I remember that BO....we thought it was the Russians.
I was watching a Ma and Pa Kettle movie when it hit.
Never did find out how it ended!
But they might have added a couple of rug rats to their collection!

NYC Public Schools closed for the rest of the week. Can't remember this ever happening. The longest stretch I've seen was three days due to a snowstorm.

It killed my car. Oh well, still way better off than many. Walked up to a restaurant we'd gone to a few times in the past. Had a hot meal, having a couple beers and charging up the devices. Not going to have power for a while but am well and dry and work is closed for the week.

I appreciate your concern, Boxcar.
We lost the Internet for a day but always kept the electric. Funny thing is that people and businesses all around us lost their power.
Anyway, we survived with branches down but no trees. All is well.

Very glad to learn that you're okay.
Did you get much flooding in your area?

Happy to hear you're in one piece. If ya stand outside and get hit in the head by a branch, there's a good chance you might change party affiliation instantly. Just walk towards the light.

National Guard was praised for aiding the evacuation efforts .
Now they have to figure out where to put the sixty prisoners
that were inpatients .

Not in our area, Boxcar. Most of the damage came from fallen trees. I live northeast of Philadelphia and we got about 4 inches of rain with winds as high as 65 mph. Things are much worse along the Jersey shore and in North Jersey.

Northwest heatbreaks
Watching the CNN coverage of the devastation on the East coast. There are many guys who normally call in and give me grief every day. I haven't heard from any of them. I know that they have more to do then to call in on a Thursday to make a wager. My heart grieves when I see towns that I know that they are in, and the devastation left behind. Prayers for "my guys" and their families, as well as everyone else who is effected by this. Grateful for sites like this, where we are able to reach out and tell friends and family that we are concerned, even more so that others are able to post that while it sucks, they are alive and well.
