My general feeling going into this debate was that it wouldn't matter a whole lot. After the debate, I felt justified in thinking that. If this debate was ALL you knew about either candidate, and they had no history, and you had no partisan bias, I think you would just walk away empty handed after watching.
Biden didn't lose, which may be all he had to do. And Trump didn't make a case for himself. Which also may or may not matter anyway.
The whole thing was "meh" for me and minds are probably not changed at this point anyway. We're at the whats-done-is-done stage here.
Trump did a good job hitting Biden on that crime bill. On immigration, anyone would be hard-pressed to decide if obama/biden was any less cruel than trump/pence (cages and all). lose/lose on that one. When Trump said Harris is more liberal than Bernie, I did laugh pretty loudly. Trump brought up all the drug abuse, domestic violence, suicides, during the pandemic. Bad move when you are the one sitting in the drivers seat in the Oval Office.
You know what I always thought would be an interesting concept? When the final debate is over, call the race and force the opposing candidates to work together, as co-presidents.
I think that is the only way anyone will
ever get any actual work done over there in Washington. I feel like for the last few decades all i've done is watch them all block each other from getting anything done.
But.........I guess that's what we're paying them for.
