President Trump Grants Clemency
November 15, 2019
Trump grants clemency to 2 Army officers accused of war crimes, restores rank to Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher
Quote:
"Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Grant of Clemency (Full Pardon) for Army First Lieutenant Clint Lorance, an Executive Grant of Clemency (Full Pardon) for Army Major Mathew Golsteyn, and an order directing the promotion of Special Warfare Operator First Class Edward R. Gallagher to the grade of E-7, the rank he held before he was tried and found not guilty of nearly all of the charges against him," the White House said in a statement Friday night.
|
Quote:
"I truly believe that we are blessed as a nation to have a commander in chief that stands up for our war fighters, and cares about how they and their families are treated." Eddie Gallagher
|
Quote:
"Our military is the best in the world, and with steadfast and supportive leadership -- like we have in this president, our fighting force will only get stronger," Eddie Gallagher added.

Trump ignores Pentagon advice and intervenes in military war crimes cases
Defense Secretary Mark Esper and other senior military leaders had told the President that a presidential pardon could potentially damage the integrity of the military judicial system, the ability of military leaders to ensure good order and discipline, and the confidence of US allies and partners who host US troops.
A US Defense official told CNN that the leadership of the Defense Department made every effort to ensure that the President had all the necessary information at his disposal prior to making this decision.
Even so, the President moved ahead with the decision...
Captain Bone Spurs - who has more active combat experience than anyone -
went ahead and did what he wanted.
Just as he always does.
Despite the fact that those with relevant expertise argued against it. ...

Don’t quite understand your argument. A presidential pardon isn’t conditional on anything. The president can pardon anyone...a serial killer like the Unibomber...anyone. Whether they are, or not, guilty is irrelevant.

How about disgusting foreigner - seems to describe some foreign know-nothing who sees fit to diss our military people.
I know class is evasive for people like you, but last thing we need outsider's opinions about our troops.
Take a hike, outsider.
And, once again, you have your head so far up your arse, you look like a butt head. Google some of the scum bags other dem prez's have pardon. Margie is right - you are a big fat 0 here.

Presedential pardons only apply to those convicted of federal crimes.

The thread so far..
Margie posts news about clemency.
Burls posts facts regarding the soldier's trial and lack of Pentagon/DoD support for clemency.
Tom calls Burls a disgusting foreigner.

Boy! you sure got them there. Gangster. Great narrative. Amazing though, you did not add a great tweet or meme, on someone backing up your summary.

I think Trump understands what he is doing.
The Pentagon has long since been detached from the real world in which they set unreasonable rules of engagement and for 8 years laid down and took it from Obamabots all the while asking troops to enforce imaginary red lines etc
It’s always been that way though. I remember after the Marines were killed in Beirut, the Pentagon did the same thing in setting goofy rules of engagement and not allowing soldiers to have a loaded magazine inserted in their weapons unless they were manning an entry point. The soldiers at the entry point were not allowed to have a “charged weapon” either. It was stupid.
At the very same time I was pulling gate guard duty at an Air Base in SoCal with a fully charged (round chambered) M16 over my shoulder and loaded .38 on my waist. It was a strange time. Excuses like “offending the local population” were tossed about.
This scratches just the surface of what kind of crap these guys dealt with and their cases are much more involved than rules of engagement etc. I think Trump defaults to the side of the hamstrung soldier in these matters. As opposed to lefties who plain hate the military. And lie straight to your face about it.
I’ll take Trump and his default siding with the soldier.......

You don't get it. It's Burl's always demeaning opinion and name-calling that sucks. THAT's what is dumb!! Put the criticism in the face of where it belongs, for once!!

Might just be me, but I keep hearing the term "Ausländer"
ringing in my ears. Funny how history is so repetitious.
