I don't have any facts readily available, but it seems to be a general consensus opinion that Joe Biden made less money on the side from being a Senator than just about any one in modern history.

Biden is an phony, a plagiarist, and insignificant fool as a political figures go but I must say ... he seems somewhat honest in the scheme of things, unlike the Obamas and Clintons who used their 'public service' careers to obscenely enrich themselves. Oops, more fake news. The $11,000 was what the Bidens listed on their tax return as rental income for the previous year.

Edwin M. Donovan, special agent in charge at the Secret Service’s Office of Government and Public Affairs in Washington, said the agency pays $2,200 in rent per-month, the same amount a previous tenant had paid before moving out.

He said the close location provides a level of security for the Biden family the agency might not have had otherwise. Asked if the Secret Service typically pays rent to the people it protects, he said, “It’s a rental property so we pay rent there.”

Taxpayer watchdogs say the Secret Service should do everything it can to protect Mr. Biden, but they wonder whether he should be collecting rent from the agency while it’s doing its job.

Last year, Mr. Biden and his wife, Jill, reported earning $379,178, including $11,000 in income from the cottage, according to the Bidens’ tax return. The Bidens did not list any rental income for 2009.

You cannot be serious. The Bidens had rental property bringing in $2200 a month, which they paid taxes on. When the renter moved out, they rented it to the feds for the horribly inflated price of $2200 a month. Do you really believe that the Bidens should eat that income loss, since Joe was now making the big bucks, over $200K a year? And they still had to pay taxes, insurance, etc., on the property.

This is the kind of nitpicking I have learned to expect from the moonbats here.

Trump didn't put the money in his own pocket, but both the money and the free publicity were YUGE benefits accruing only because he is POTUS.
