DMR closing this weekend due to virus
Flav and Umberto down with virus. Hear whole room is being tested and waiting on results. Closing this weekend for now. More to come I'm guessing. Per Samantha Seigel tweet which I don't have in front of me right now.

Whatever was going on at LRC is now apparently at DMR.
Mike Smith is riding at MTH this weekend in the Haskell. I'm not so sure I'd want to be near him without a double mask.
What happens with Maximum Security now?
Saratoga anyone?

Seems crazy for Monmouth to even let him on the grounds.

Watching some race on TV, riders and other totally disregarding the rules - no masks on many, sanding close - tracks need to start acting responsible - lord know that can't control doping and late odds drops - can they do ANYTHING?
NYRA seems to be pretty much in compliance anytime I see a race there - Maggie and her team ALWAYS keeping a safe distance,
Seems to me jock and trainers should be banned from travel - like Sar is doing, no shipping in and out - pick a track, stay there unless you quarantine 21 days or whatever is the flavor of the week today.
Upside to this, Todd can spend his whole weekend on his boogie board!

But, you know, we just had to ride in the freaking Indiana Derby, covid19 be damned. Get your priorities straight!

Dont believe he has been in california since SA closed, and certainly not del mar or los alimitos.

Isn't Luis Saez positive?
How's the contact tracing going out east?

I was proud of SA and GP when racing started back up. But I also knew we might slip. Maintaining distancing requires constant vigilance and the ability to say no to people such as owners who have a certain amount of power.
Hopefully DMR does a reset and ensures strict protocols are in place.

That would be fortunately for him.
There's a potentially interesting choice for him to make either way.
If he rides at MTH, he won't be able to accept any mounts at Saratoga.

I am not sure how many non NE area horses are going to be shipping into Saratoga this year, you can only come into NY from California/Florida with a 14 day quarantine so thats not going to work.

I posted a link to the article because 15 riders is a significant percentage of the rider colony. My database shows a total of 26 rider names with mounts at Del Mar last weekend.
According to the DRF.com article:
Quote:
The jockeys were tested by the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency at the request of Del Mar officials. The riders are believed to be asymptomatic and will quarantine for 10 days.
|
Are all 15 who tested positive really asymptomatic? (Or is the "believed to be asymptomatic" part simply a quote from the statement given to the DRF by Del Mar?)
I suppose I can make a phone call or two and find out. But right now as I type this I really have no way of knowing.
That said --
I sincerely wish all 15 a speedy recovery.
I also sincerely hope Del Mar is able implement the type of protocols that enabled both Golden Gate and Santa Anita to operate safely given the current environment.
