Stride Data in US

Hi All,

While limited stride data is available in the US (that I'm aware / I only know of TPD), is anyone playing around with it in their handicapping flow? Would be good to connect with some folks who are, feel free to post here or dm me. I searched past topics on the forum but the results were fairly limited. One very old but informative one was http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=28413. User speculus seemed to be doing some good work on the topic in India and had a good doc in that thread.

For those who don't have access stride data, what would you be most keen to look into and evaluate?

Derek

I don't use stride length data in my handicapping, but I found these guys awhile back, and it looks like they use it mainly for sales info, but they do have a portion on race video evaluation.

I always thought American Pharoah had the most perfect stride of any top race horse over the last 20 years or so. On the other side of the coin is a horse like Vekoma, with his paddle wheel action, though maybe his stride length is not compromised too much by it.

I remember that thread you reference and reading speculus's study years ago, I sounded smarter back then...

Forget about stride length. High double-air-P3 is where it's at.

Interested to see that in the 2-year-old in training sales, for immediate and long-term data.

Nothing earth shattering here but interesting to see flow none-the-less for an example 1 mile turf races, some observations...

These are averages (outliers should prob be removed first) over a small population of races.
  1. You can see the OTM stride frequencies are too high in the early stages of the race and therefor "burning" their energy quicker.
  2. The winners and top 3 stride frequency settles at a lower frequency in the mid part of the race than the OTM horses
  3. The winners and top 3 stride frequency increases with a furlong and a half to go and are able to do such since their energy was conserved. The yellow (OTM) is on top the entire trip until the last furlong and a half.
